E-SATA (just external type SATA). but performance still same. Disadvantage it can't direct plug&use.

We know that any USB2.0 product , MAX read/write speed no over ~32MB/s.
But using USB3.0 is 2-3 times faster than !!

1.) 3.5" Enclosure USB 3.0

Chipset: ASM1051 (Asus) , better than JMicron.

RAM: Kingston DDR2-800 2x2GB
HDD: WD 1TB EADS

SATA Mode : Native IDE (no AHCI)

USB3.0 Enclosure -> PCI-E USB3.0 Card = ~82MB/s
USB3.0 Enclosure -> Motherboard USB2.0 port = 32MB/s
Motherboard SATA 2 = ~70MB/s

The test is pretty slow for USB 3.0 . USB 3.0's bandwidth is 5Gbps or 625MB per second max. That hard disk is the bottleneck of that setup.

so does it mean, a normal HDD couldn't make full use of USB 3.0 speed?

more like a normal HDD full potential is shown on USB 3.0, 70-80MBps is fair for WD green, since it was the read/ write speed...

if TS would try it with higher performance Spinpoint F3 or WD black, the speed would hit the neck of 110-130 Mbps w/o any issues,

and Yes, it seems like the hard disk is bottlenecking the USB3.0 lol

Hmm seems like u WD green bottlenecking the USB 3.0 speed. Below is some review done by Coolaler using a Gskill 128Gb SSD HDD.

By raw bandwidth:

SATA 6 Gb/s (3.0) > USB 3.0 (5 Gb/s) > SATA 3 Gb/s (2.0) > SATA 1.5 Gb/s (1.0) > USB 2.0 (480 Mb/s)

USB3 enclosure using SATA2 HDD inside, cannot be faster than eSATA enclosure using SATA2 HDD right? Since SATA2 HDD is the bottleneck.

Those are the theoretical specification limits of the raw bandwidth. The actual bandwidth will be significantly lower, depending on the efficiency of the protocol used.

USB 2.0's 480 Mbit/s raw bandwidth is equal to 60 megabyte/s transfer rate, but it's normally bottlenecked to about 30 megabyte/s transfer rate because of the protocol. SATA's protocol efficiency is 80% (due to the 8b/10b data transfer protocol used) and plus some overhead, so the 3 Gbit/s is 2.4 Gbit/s actual or 300 megabyte/s, excluding additional protocol overhead. And from the SSDs, they seem to be bottlenecked to about 250+ megabyte/s instead of hitting that 300 megabyte/s ceiling.

eSATA is based on SATA 1.5 Gb/s (1.0), so it is slower than SATA 3 Gb/s (2.0).

For those interested in what the future might bring us and haven't heard of Light Peak, take a look at Light Peak.

Light Peak? Light years away?
And no wonder Intel is reluctant to support USB 3.0!
Anyway, in addition to gigabyte's USB3.0 mobos, Western Digital has introduce My Book 3.0 in 1TB capacity! The standalone drive comes with a price tag of RM519 while the complete solution kit that includes a USB 3.0 PCIe (gen2) adapter card is priced at RM569. Check the links as for the Malaysian distros >>
http://www.lowyat.net/v2/latest/western-di...ard-disk-2.html

This year we will be seeing more and more USB 3.0-based products making their appearance.

In that case your 1st post information about pricing is wrong.
And secondly if I'm not mistaken WD's warranty is 2 years including the kit.
Third, the WD price is RRP only and actual price is usually lower especially in LYN.
