The same here, I have been using smartphone for the past 3 years from Dopod to iPhone to now a BB.
PDA Phone are ok, but it's too difficult to find softwares to install. iPhone, yeah it's cool and innovative, but you still get a lag when you want to check your mail or go to the internet, or even chatting on msn and facebook. With the BB, I find the email is almost instant, and i'm on msn almost 24 hours a day now because it's always connected. Although smaller screen (I'm using curve 8900) but it's still quite fast compare to my previous iPhone 3G. |

SO what is the examples of BIS (Blackberry Internet Service)?
Is it because of the function that can get email directly that make a BB so special? I am currently using nokia 5800, i think it also hv the feature too. also, BB gt many apps or not? |

go to http://www.google.com . in text box type in 'push technology' . this is wat your nokia dont have (nokia email apps using pull tech, where you phone pull the data from the server). do your nokia apps such as facebook, msn, twitter, email, etc.. send you notification or show you a visual notification that you have an update? with bb u're 24/7 connected to every apps, you'll get notify if there's anything new on your facebook, twtter, email, and etc (including news, weather, movies, too many to tell you.) it's like information on the go. everthing will be push into your bb right on your hand.
With your nokia, you need to connect to the internet using 3g or edge everytime u want to surf or chat, send email, recieve email (and this will make your bill going up high, coz u need to pay every kb of data u use). with bb u are always connected to the net using BIS, and one more thing using BIS all your data connection will be compress so that you can save the kb of data u use, to make it fast and cheap. FYI, trust me, if you're using bb, you will addicted to it. you always want to chat, ym, msn, bbm, facebook, twitter, email coz everything so easy. if u using nokia, u always thinking that u need to connect to 3g first then need to think on the bill amount if you send and receive data. QUOTE(chunf @ Jan 16 2010, 04:08 PM) SO what is the examples of BIS (Blackberry Internet Service)? Is it because of the function that can get email directly that make a BB so special? I am currently using nokia 5800, i think it also hv the feature too. also, BB gt many apps or not? I really dont understand your question. But I will try to explain to ya what is BIS According to wiki, it said " The BlackBerry Internet Service, or BIS, allows BlackBerry users to access the Internet and POP3/IMAP/Outlook Web Access email accounts without connecting through a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES).[1] The service is usually provisioned through your mobile phone service provider, though Research In Motion (RIM) (BlackBerry's developer) actually runs the service.[2] This service uses RIM's proprietary push technology which allows real-time access of email." Beside "real" push email, there are also many features listed below 1) Blackberry Messenger - BlackBerry Messenger (abbreviated BBM) is a proprietary Instant Messenger application included on newer model BlackBerry devices. It was developed by Research in Motion. Messages sent via Blackberry Messenger are sent over the BlackBerry PIN system; thus, communication is only possible between two BlackBerry devices. Exchanging messages is also possible via dedicated discussion or chat rooms, which allow multiple BlackBerry devices to communicate in a single session. In addition to offering text-based Instant Messages, BlackBerry Messenger allows users to send pictures, a wide selection of emoticons (also known as "smileys") and other files over the Blackberry network. With the release of BlackBerry Messenger 5.0, RIM allows users use their unique QR Code 2D (matrix) barcode to allow users to add each other to their respective friends lists rather than using only numeric PIN identification. 2) Inside BBM, we can create BB Group. This is a power collaboration tool for BBM version 5. Any BB users can create their group and invite their friends, family, even strangers to join. Each group can have up to 30 members. Also most group will have a common interest or topic. 3) IM (Instant Messenger)- BIS will allow push msg to all supported IM client (Window Live Messenger, Yahoo Chat, Google Talk, ICQ, AIM and etc). 4) Social Networking Client - Facebook, Flickr, MySpace, Twitter and etc. All updates and feeds will have notification on your main inbox. 5) Internet Browser: Either own client or 3rd Parties browser like Operamini, Bolts, Skyfire and etc. 6) Other application like Google Map, Blackberry Map (own software) and many more application you can found at AppWorld or www.mobihand.com Without BIS, 1), 2), 3) and 4) will not work or work not proper under non-BIS connection (ie wifi, broadband) So in conclusion, why need BIS when you brought a BB??? This is because if you dont have BIS, your BB will become dumb and stupid like its owner. ( Sorry for so sarcastic Come to What SO SPECIAL about Blackberry? 1) Smart people use Smartphone. Smarter people use Blackberry. So if you a BB owner, When go to mamak stal remember to put your blackberry terang terang on the table.... 2) You notice a lot of politician start to use BB because your communication using BBM is all goes through RIM's servers. NOT your ordinary telco. It is more secure. So you wont kena scenario like our pinky lip PM's "be cool" sms leaked from Malaysia telco..hahahaha 3) RIM's Push email is best know among its user and even their competitor. Email are push to you like sms. You dont need to open mail client, click retrieve/sync/refresh inbox. The mail will automatically push to you once you setup 4) RIM's device are full of variety can cater for ALL Frequency band. CDMA variant, GSM, UMTS, LTE (Future) and etc all are cover by RIM. Not like Iphone/Palm Pre only work on GSM now. Hmm..That all i can think off now. Any BB user mind to chip in? |

BIS is so different compared to mobile internet.
Easy examplelah... With Nokia you have to log in to your Facebook account to check any updates or notifications but with BB, the notifications are right there on your homescreen. Like you get new text. Same goes if you received email, Twitter, YM, MSN, BBM - all got notifications! Like others said with BIS your are connected with the internet 24/7!!! |

Yeah, as what mike describe in detail. The PUSH and the PULL technology is very different. Like my iPhone, each time I want to check email, I need it to pull the email from the server. But with my BB, it's automatically push to me.

Yup, you have to pay for the BIS on top of your voice plan. Unless you are going for Digi Berry Plan.

Hi,
I've been waiting to get my hands on the new onyx but somehow this small voice inside me keeps saying i dont need it. Hmmm....lets try n be objective about what is so special with bb. Basically what it does is :- 1. Email - push ka, pull ka, lag 10sec ka, lag 10 min ka...its still email 2. Chat - with BBM its cost is included in ure BIS package. Again, even if u have thousands of chat apps....its still just CHAT. 3. Internet - now all phone also can browse right ? But really, BB is ALL about email, chatting on BBM and FB...right ? Other than that...its just the hype n status ie to be seen with BB...hehehe. cmon guys..right or not ? |

why not get one, and see if you will be hooked with it. If it doesn't then sell at a cheaper price.. get another phone. after all.. its still a phone.
i myself have no experience in BB world yet, but i wouldn't mind to experiment and get myself hooked with BIS. its all up to the individual. cheers. |
