Answer:

1) Norton File Insight

2) Delivers clear threat and performance explanation. It gives you greater insight into downloaded applications and files by telling you where they came from, if they can be trusted, and how they may impact your PC’s resources and performance.

My Personal Review

Installation

Installing this software is very simple and easy. My Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4Ghz) with 2GB RAM install the program easily without any problems. Storage is not a problem as it requires not more than 100MB in the main hardisk. This software also works well in my new windows 7 professional 64-bit.

First Run

User need to register an account to continue the process. I already have an account since Norton Internet Security 2009. Therefore its not a problem to me. Furthermore the registration did not consume a lot of time. After that it is ready protecting my machine.

Programs Updates

The Norton update server is very helpful. It provides better bandwidth and make the updates hassle free. I think it will get better if you had a better internet connection speed. Having this software does not reduce the boot up time performance. It still the same just like before i installed Norton Internet Security 2009.

Scanning

My total Hard disk space is around 2TB and its big. However, scanning it using Norton Internet Security 2010 is very pleasant as it did not slow down my machine and obviously did not consume a lot of processing and ram available. The time taken is also minimized compared to other Antivirus that I already tried before. Try this: scan a bunch of file and stop in the middle. If you re scan those file again Norton Internet Security 2010 will try to minimize scanning time by scanning the file that still not yet scanned since the previous scan.

Protection and Extra Product Features

Norton Insight, Identity Safe, Browser Protection, Safe Surfing is just some of the extras i get. Personally I really like the Safe Surfing. It really help me when im doing a search on search engine as all of the results will be analyzed for any threats. The Norton Insight also helps a lot when it comes to new downloaded file as it can search for any similarities in the Norton Insight database to make sure it is free from any kind of cyber threats. The Sonar Scanning is also good as it helps to scan file by doing it in background without disturbing the main process of the machine. User can also view the performance and resource used by the software. The System insight keep track what happen with the system and what Norton Internet Security had done since the 1st minue it is installed in the machine.

Finally

I recommend all users to try this software and feel the performance and perfection that it can provide you. I really hope i can have a copy of this Norton Internet Security 2010 to make sure my system will always protected from any kind of threats.

Norton Antivirus 2010
i)SONAR™ 2 Behavioral Protection
ii)Identifies unsafe web sites right in your search results - Warns you of dangerous web sites and suspicious sellers so you can surf and shop online with confidence.

Tested on
Processor: Intel T9550 (2.66 Ghz)
RAM: 4GB RAM (3GB Used)
Windows 32-bit Vista Premium

Waking NIS 2010 Up
Takes less than 1 minute! 00:00:58:12 to be precise (And 10 seconds to load). That beats the record of taking up a full half-an-hour and a gazillion alarm clock to wake me up! It's astonishing. The best part is, I don't even have to uninstall my previous antivirus to get it up and running, it's just so competitor friendly, and mouse-clicks friendly too~

Touch N Go Session
The basic settings will appear right in front of your eyes and can be adjusted once you open NIS 2010. However, you are given the freedom to reconfigure the features if deemed necessary. So, you can leave it as it is or tweek it a little to your satisfaction.

Features
There are lots of feature on NIS 2010, eg: Bazookas, Taepodong missile, laser-rigged shovel and the list goes on and on to sweep out all those pesky worms which 99% you won't be bothered to use, or can't be used since it's not our constitutional rights, so here's a few features that I highlight which might be useful to you, unless if you're the prime minister, of course.

1. System Insight
Make a risk assessment on files where those trusted will be exempted from scanning to improve your computer performance, good for those running on Pentium 4 and Intel Atom. If you don't trust Norton Insight, then you can set it to full scan, which I think is pointless, unless you're running on 500-cores and just got no work for the remaining 498 cores to do. One piece of advice, just trust the Norton Insight.

2. SONAR 2
IMHO, SONAR 2's little brother, SONAR in NIS 2009 is a disaster and did quite an awful job compared to other antivirus software. It didn't quite live to its expectations. The old SONAR missed a couple of possible harmful files which my other antivirus software did detect, resulting me switching sides in 2008.
Now, however, I must say SONAR 2 did a very remarkable job, tempts me to switch sides again. An overkill, perhaps. Much, much better than the previous SONAR. Though, if you find SONAR 2 overpowered, you have to option to switch it off but probably you won't unless you're a person that buys a Veyron and never even drives it.

3. Silent Mode
Similar to what you call "Game Mode". It just basically suspends some of its background activities when you enter any fullscreen application to prevent annoying alerts popping up. Pretty useful if you're in the middle of a United States-Russian war in Washington.

4. IMAPI 2.0 Disk Burn
Part of silent mode, I didn't know that antivirus background activity can affect disc burning sessions. It says that with this turned on, it will improve the performance of the disk burning session. Oh, magic...

5. Power Saving Mode
Rejoice netbook users, or should I say laptop users, now you can enjoy sitting at Starbucks, leeching all bandwidth around you for a good period of time.

6. Identity Safe Setup
At last, an antivirus that handles my credit card information, with an autofill feature so that I can confidently shop online without having to type in those pesky long numbers. Indeed, it grants users a reassurance of protection when conducting transactions. It doesn't end here, it also manages your 1)login information such as email user ID and password, 2)personal information, 3)details such as passport number and social security numbers.

7. Parental and Privacy Control
Just to let parents out there know that it exist in NIS 2010. Keeps your children away from websites that will land them in ISA detention.

8. Updates
I've no real benchmark for it but safe to say it's possible to update if you're still stuck with copper wires. It will finish update by the time you suffer another round of frequent disconnections.

9. Graphics User Interface
One word: Superb. One of the best I've ever seen. How do I describe this? Light yet powerful. One thing that impress me is it flipped horizontally when you pressed "performance" to check on the Activity Graph. Got my 3 year old nephew pestering me for 5 minutes to repeatedly press it. What I can say here is Norton is trying to make it as minimal as possible in terms of space used on screen but highly presentable as possible. Talk about space efficiency. Wow.

In A Nutshell
Definitely a far better improvement can be seen here compared to its predecessor. Norton Internet Security 2010 is definitely worth the money spent. It's more worth it if you're using notebooks or netbooks or tablet PC. Since portability begets internet connectivity, you're bound for virus/worm exposure. NIS 2010 will solve that problem for you. If you're using any other antivirus software besides Norton, here's a little advice from our creepy fat yellow friend: It's time to change.

NIS2010 Simple Review

i) Norton System Insight
ii) Analyzes downloads, files and applications and tells you if they can be trusted before you install and use them.

My PC specification:
Intel Q9450
4GB RAM
Window XP SP3

Installation
The installation process was impressively fast. It take about 1 minutes from double clicking the NIS2010 installer to finish installation and services starting for NIS2010. After execute the installer, only 1 click is needed (which is 'Agree & Install') to complete the installation. The installation interface is nice and mouse-click friendly. Overall, Norton's installation experience was fast and hassle-free, with a minimum of configuration options.

Performance
NIS2010 only add up few second to my PC boot up time which is insignificant. The first time Quick Scan take about 40sec to complete but the following Quick Scan finish in 15sec due to Norton won't rescan files that it detects haven't changed since the last check. When idle, memory usage for NIS2010 is about 15MB which is consider low for a antivirus program. During the scanning process, I still can continue in web surfing and watch video without any lagging.

Features
There are a lots of new and useful features added in NIS2010 such as Norton System Insight, SONAR 2 Behavioral Protection, Norton Download Insight and etc. I like the Norton Download Insight feature as it can helped me to verify whether a newly downloaded files is safe or not. SONAR 2 use online intelligence network with proactive local monitoring of user's PC to detect emerging threats and hence make sure my PC is safe from new threats/virus. Norton System Insight gives an overview of recent events on PC such as installs, scans and detected threats, so I can found out which event is culprit for impact on my PC performance.

Final Words
My previous experience with Norton product was Norton Antivirus 2004 which is consider bulky, consume quite a lot of cpu and memory resources, slow boot up time, and slow scanning. Then I opt for other antivirus such as AVG and Kaspersky to replace Norton as I do not have good experience with Norton product during that time. It remain so until I try out NIS2009 after suggest by a friends of mine. NIS2009 totally changed my experience and opinion about Norton antivirus. It had improved a lot compare to the version i used before. It became faster in speed, lower memory usage, and faster scanning. That's the reason I choose Norton over other brand for now.

Product: Norton Internet Security 2010(NIS 2010)

Answers:-

1) SONAR Protection
2) Norton Safe Web

Product tested on:-

ASUS K40AB Series
CPU : AMD Athon64 X2 QL65 2.1GHz 1MB total L2 cache
Operating System : Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit
Memory : 2GB DDR2-667 stock
Graphics Card : ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD4570 with 512MB DDR2 VRAM 680Mhz core

500MHz memory with on-board HD 3200 via PowerXpress
Display : 14” HD LED-backlit LCD 1366x768 resolution
Hard Disk Drive : 320GB Hitachi SATA 5400rpm

Installation

With my current laptop I am using, installation was very smooth, easy and simple. Amazingly, it took less than 3 minutes for a complete installation. No complications with the installation configurations. All in all, it is user-friendly, which would please many casual PC-users.

Performance

On the first run, I was asked for a Norton Account, which was a breeze because I already have an account since 2008 wink.gif. The LIVE Update was fast, just had a 11MB files of updates during the first run. With an average of 3-5% of CPU usage on idle, it clearly shows just how unaffected the system is with having (NIS 2010) running in the background. (Heard numerous comments about Norton Products are resource-hogger, but as I have tried myself during my days and still counting, it was never an issue.)

Scanning-wise, honestly I could not tell whether it is faster than 2009's, but the difference that I can tell is that I don't feel slow whenever I am surfing the internet or doing my work during scanning process, so this is a huge improvement. Although, I am yet to test the virus scan and solutions because I have not been affected by any during my trial (of course, I am more happy if I don't have to go through this tongue.gif)

Most important thing for me and for many other users in the future is NIS 2010 DOES NOT slow down my boot-up time! (Even if there was, it was pretty much unnoticeable)

Overall, a huge improvement can easily be seen from the way things work with NIS 2010, thumbs up.

Graphic User Interface(GUI)

Amazing, just amazing. Simple, yet appealing. It blends pretty well with Windows Vista. The newly-invented flip GUI is nicely done. NIS 2010 settings are well
arranged, making it easier to navigate through. Now, you can even choose some pre-installed themes for the GUI (might have more in the future perhaps? At
least, NIS 2010 is not just a security software who does only 1 thing, you can even pimp it visually tongue.gif)

Features

There are many new and cool features with NIS 2010. My favorites features for example, Norton Safe Web, as a heavy internet user, I find this the most important so I will have lesser things to worry about when I visit websites, not to forget the feature that ensures that your downloaded files are safely analyzed
before you are to open, install or launch an application. SONAR protection will cut down all the hassles of you to worry about the latest web-attacks by having a real-time protection from time to time.

Final Words

First of all, I would like to thank Symantec for the improvements made and came up with a new version of NIS. Although many have said of how unstable NIS is, I am yet to experience, so far I am enjoying the protections offered for 2 years, and still counting. With proper tweaking with the configuration settings, you
will experience the best security software you could ever have. Easy installation, easy navigation, maximum protection, value for money, what more can you ask?

Vulnerabilities are flaws in your programs or your operating system that can create weaknesses in overall security of your system. Improper computer configurations or security configurations also create vulnerabilities. External attackers exploit these vulnerabilities and perform malicious actions on your computer. Examples of such malicious attacks are keylogging and hacking. Such attacks can slow down the performance of your computer, cause program failure, or expose your personal data and confidential information to the hackers.

Norton Internet Security provides the signature-based solutions to protect your computer from the most common Internet attacks. Attack signatures contain the information that identifies an attacker's attempt to exploit a known vulnerability in your operating system or your computer programs. The Intrusion Prevention feature of Norton Internet Security uses an extensive list of attack signatures to detect and block suspicious network activity.

Machine Specifications

ASUSTeK Computer INC.P5K SE/EPU
Intel Core 2 Duo E4600
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
Windows XP Pro SP3

Installation

Installation was easy and simple.1 mouse-click is needed for the whole installation process. The installation took me about 10 minutes including the uninstalling previous product and reboot time. The boot up time doesn't have any significant affection.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Updates

The LIVE updates for virus database is very fast.I'm happy they solve the hanging problem when I was running NAV2009.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Graphic User Interface

Simple and Clean. It is much better than the previous interface. All the product features can be found on the main window. The main window displays overall CPU usage, as well as usage to Norton. Click Performance under this display and the main window visibly flips over to display details on the other side.On the flip side, System Insight shows an interactive timeline of security events. Click a detection event to see how many threats were found. The performance display below charts CPU and Memory usage by Norton and by all programs over time. The flip side is a nice addition for those who like to poke around. Average users can just stick to the the main window.

Scanning

The quick scan shocked me.It did not slow down my computer and did not consume a lot of ram which I can scanning my pc while surfing net.Norton speeds scans by skipping files that haven't changed since the last signature update. It took about 8 minutes to scan my pc.Once Norton Insight has processed all files, the scan can also skip any identified as "Norton Trusted." The scanning results show that there are 28 threats in my machine.

Norton Insight

It uses input from millions of Norton users to develop a reputation rating for their pc internal file. A file encountered by majority is safer than those encountered by minority. A file that's been around for months is safer than one that is newly available. A file downloaded from somewhere well known is safer than one from an unknown source.

We can get a list of ratings for all applications on the system. The File Insight data is especially helpful when Norton attempts to block a download you thought was safe.Download Insight starts analyzing files the moment the download begins, and stops the download if the file is infected with torjans or malwares. The Site Safety monitor warns you when you visit a site that has been infected.

Parental Controls
The NIS2010 offers Parental Controls. It has all the expected features. It can work on all your computers, and you can manage it from any Internet-equipped computer.

Smart Firewall
It is truly genius. It allows Internet access for known good programs, deletes known bad programs, and keeps an eye on the behavior of unknowns. That means you never get a confusing query from the firewall.

SONAR™ 2 Behavioral Protection

One of the product feature which interests me.It detects suspicious behavior of application in my PC which initially I did not understand how it is work.Until one day,a sonar protection window pop out to warn me an unknown application when I was about to open it.

Silent Mode

This is very useful if you are a hardcore gamer. It suspends background activities when manually you activate it or activate automatically when you run an full screen application like PC games.

Name 1 NEW Technology in Norton Internet Security 2010 -> Norton System Insight
Name 1 NEW Feature/Benefit of Norton Internet Security 2010 -> Norton IdentitySafe On-the-Go

The Norton 2010 Experience.

Norton is back again for its award winning product. The previous Norton 2009 product line up was awesome. Having attended the Norton Internet Security 2009 event back in 2008 is an eye opener. During that time Norton is using the tag line "You Need The Speed Of Norton", which makes me very sceptical. With me experiencing very bad performance with its product during 2006 and 2007, invitation to its product launch just doesn't seems to appeal me. The word "Norton" and "Speed" doesn't come together, as far as I'm concern. Until the Norton 2009 product line-up arrives. The product performance is just staggering. Using Norton Internet Security 2009 is a very pleasant experience.

Safer. Smarter. Faster.
Now comes the Norton Internet Security 2010. At first I thought, what could be better? With the tag line "Safer. Smarter. Faster.", Norton is indeed right on track fighting security threats. Norton one-click install makes even the basic computer user to be safe and protected from unwanted threats. This is a good approach since a good security suite should decide which is good and which is bad for its users not the other way around, hence its smarter. It install roughly in 1 minute, which is very fast for a security suite software.

Quorum
The one feature that you really must look into in Norton Internet Security 2010 is the Quorum technology. Normally a security suite suite uses either a signature based detection or behavior based detection or both. But with the latest offering from Norton Internet Security 2010, Quorum technology uses other Norton user input to create a reputation for each file. Few factors makes up the reputation such as download source, digital signature, age of the file and also when it is first seen. So basically Norton reputation scanning or the Quorum technology scans a file based on its reputation to prevent threats from its user.

Insight Reputation
Norton Internet Security 2010 uses Insight technology to boost up its product performance. Take System Insight for example, it shows you the history of threat detection, quick scan, program installation and also downloaded files. Download Insight on the other hand will analyse your download and determine whether it is safe to open it. File Insight and Threat Insight is also included. These Insights relies on the Quorum technology to provide real-time proactive protection from the newest threats. Insight technology in a whole inform its users the security and performance impact of files they are dealing with online.

Smart Timing
Norton Internet Security 2010 has a smart scheduler whereby when your PC is idling, it will use that time to do its task. It will run LiveUpdate, Full or Quick Scan and even optimizing the PC. This will make sure important task doesn't interrupt user. I find this the most useful feature as I don't need to check on whether I've did my PC scans or updates. I also found out that Norton Internet Security doesn't need much of a user input to do its task.

Living Up To Norton Reputation
While Norton reputation has been bad for the past few years due to its resource hogging application. It seems to me that the time has come that we acknowledge that Norton has indeed rectify that problem. I, for once, didn't expect that a security suite could be so advanced and harsh on security threats yet so soft and subtle to its user. I'm also amazed at how little user input that Norton Internet Security 2010 actually needs to do its tasks. The only input it needed you to do is by extending its subscription. Other tasks will be mostly done by Norton Internet Security 2010, all by itself.

A review done by Neil J. Rubenking gave Norton Internet Security 2010 the PCMag.com Editor's Choice. For those who aren't familiar with this guy, here's his credentials -> Neil J. Rubenking. For him to give Norton Internet Security 2010 that kind of award is indeed a sign that Norton has change from its past.

The Green Sign
For me, the experience of using Norton Internet Security 2010 has been a pleasant one. I've installed the full version on my desktop PC and the trial version on my netbook. Both runs perfectly fine without hiccup. I've even installed the trial version on the netbook and just leave it as it is. Meaning after installation, I've did absolutely nothing to it. Not doing updates, not doing any full system scans, nothing. But if I open the Norton Internet Security 2010, every task has been done accordingly. How amazing is that. Whenever I turn on my PC and it shows the small little green sign on the bottom right of my PC, I know I'm protected. A sign of confidence. A sign of trust.

Consumer Education
Apart from its product Norton has also release a few video on online security threat. Its approach on it is very funny but educating. Let us enjoy few of them.

Online Threat Video 1

Online Threat Video 2

Online Threat Video 3

They also have release a Symantec Threat Monitor. Its basically a screensaver that keeps you up-to-date on the threat landscape using a feed from Symantec’s DeepSight monitoring service. The ThreatCon rating in the screensaver also lets you know the current danger level of the Internet based on network incident and malicious code activity. Here the link to install it -> Symantec Threat Monitor

Besides the video and screensaver Norton has also launched a website to educate user on online security threat. You can use it to educate family and friends so that they are well protected while being online. The website is flash heavy, so expect it to be quite slow to load. But it is still a good move by Norton to educate end user. Go to www.everyclickmatters.com to learn more. Have fun! Enjoy the Norton experience!
