I believe to achieve more performance when rendering 3D stuff, you need those nVIDIA Quadro FX graphic card as it's designed for such heavy duty work. But it'll cost a little more to a bomb!

you guys phailed betul la.... if you're unsure then better don't simply say ler.

3Ds Max mental ray is rendered using CPU la.. it has ntg to do with your GC. GC is only for when you are previewing in your viewport. Your Quad Core is more than enough for rendering *obviously* rolleyes.gif the only problem is just your render settings. Maybe you're using too much occlusion type shadow or your scene has too much lights or your texture maps are too hi-res... who knows the possibilities are endless but its definitely your render and scene settings.

I see, sorry for the misinformation though, as I thought Mental Ray was rendered using as other 3D stuff.

no probs mate

nah mental ray rendering is different from your GC rendering

Graphics 3D Rendering - 1 frame takes 2minutes
Games 3D Rendering - 60 frames in one second

Thats why if one day mainstream graphics card can be used to render 3D graphics, those 3D artists will be flying high already.. but there is one type of render engine (mental ray is a rendering engine btw) which can use GC power to render which is nVidia Gelato but I've never tried it yet..

lol 20 seconds per frame you consider slow? You should ask these people in this thread http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/54654 on how long they take to render 1 frame..

and like I mention in my post above... for me, the sweet spot is 2 minutes per frame... my final year project which was only 3 mins took me 1 week plus to render. And 1 week plus means really 24hrs/day render.
