In order to promote integration and to make the most of scarce resources, the different streams could be built close to each other so that they can share scarce quality resources and facilities such as library, playing field, park, sports complex, stadium, computer labs, etc.

The annual sports day and other competitions could be jointly organized. The same can be done for artistic and cultural events. This will not only promote integration but will surely improve the quality of our athletes and performing artistes.

This concept is very different from Dr Mahathir's "Vision Schools". Each stream in the "Integrated School Complex" maintains its autonomy, with its own administration and each school in this complex is a new school, not a relocated school.

Added on November 5, 2009, 5:09 pmIt is time that the Government starts treating the Chinese and Tamil schools as part of the national education system and not their fabled step children.

We have wasted years of neglect of these schools mainly because of the currency of the now discredited "Melting Pot" thesis practiced in the United States in the past.

Added on November 5, 2009, 5:15 pmUmno has to come round to the fact that the Chinese and Tamil communities will not be duped by slogans such as "1Malaysia" so long as they see continual unfair allocation for Chinese and Tamil schools by the Government. Nor are they amused by yesterday's men throwing up old red herrings about Chinese and Tamil schools being segregationist.

Dr Kua Kia Soong is Director of SUARAM, a human rights group.

we should abolish the other streams and pick what's best from each stream and make one stream.

i know this cute chinese girl when i was in PLKN, sometimes we message each other.
then her mom called and said something in chinese, after i thought it was wrong number, she asked me in malay "u melayu ka? u melayu ka?"
after that she never contacted me again.

the problem is, a lot of us, chinese and malays alike, are racist by nature. and our parents are racist, and our families are racist.
but from my point of view, the racism between malays and chinese are different.
malays, when they're racist, they just are racist. call names, or whatnot.
but chinese on the other hand, they are prohibited from making friends with malays. its like they want to live on their own, in their own little snow globe. they dont even know how to talk malay, they dont respect other races, they think they are superior.

yet what appalls me is that, these same people who are screaming for unity and equality.
what a lot of our malay leaders are concerned now about giving the chinese rights and equality is that, it may become a threat to the malays.

man, im gonna get banned for this.

ALL subjects and EVERYthing else in school to be made ENGLISH .... then Chinese/Tamil/Malay is an option for those who wanna learn extra language.. and it should be during moral class [YES, Moral class throw away... that nonsence shit teaches me NOTHING ... Gangster will be gangster no matter what]..

its like... Malay can choose to study Tamil... Indian can choose to study Chinese ... Great idea right??? 1 Malaysia ma...

But dumbasses want to argue Put Malay as Head language... MY HEAD la... just make it seems more like Malaysia are for the MALAYS.... make us look like indon....

Actually there are still something not being covered in the Malaysia History.

Thanks to internet that we learn some of the historical facts about Malaysia on the internet too.

When we look into the slogan '1 Malaysia', the slogan is there but it doesn't bring up detailed concepts, everything seems to be discussed on the surface.

'1 Malaysia' is definitely similar to PAP's 'Malaysian Malaysia' in the 1960's. Looking at the slogans itself, it means unity.
Like I said earlier, when you look at things on the surface, they look the same, but the concepts are different.
Malaysian Malaysia favours towards fair and equal treatment to all the races, but I don't see this 'fair and equal treatment' term in 1 Malaysia or did I miss out that part?

When we are calling ourself Malaysian instead of Malaysian Malay or Malaysian Chinese or Malaysian India, it's just like peeling an apple. Though the apple skin is peeled off, it's still an apple. Just look at the other races particularly Chinese in Indonesia, even though they are known as Indonesians, they don't have Chinese names, they don't even learn their mother tongue and yet equality isn't there, the Indonesian riot of May 1998 is a good example. Even if you don't tell their actual race based on their identity cards or birth certificates, you can tell it from the difference of skin colors. So, the Indonesian riot of May 1998 shows us that even monolinguistic and 'Satu Bangsa' don't really help in national unity if equality is not there.

Malaysia has been independent for 52 years, and United States of America has been formed for centuries and how many centuries it took for the Blacks to fight for their rights and equal treatment in U.S? Things might look simple in a slogan, but at the end the most important thing is not the slogan but the concept of the slogan.
