Hi,

I'm wondering if I need extra protection or other accessories if I'm planning to bring a local DSLR set to winter conditions at 0 Celsius?

Please advise.

Thanks

You must keep your lithium-ion batteries warm when not in use.
Subjecting your lithium-ion batteries to extreme cold weather will cause your battery power to drop drastically.

like our body.. we generate heat so we dont get freezed..
the battery, whenever cold (minus 0 temp) can self discharge (i dunno why/how in terms of it mechanically)

put ur camera in ur jacket.. close to ur body..
gantung di leher saja baru zip on the jacket.. this will REDUCE (not stop) the battery from self discharging

even eneloop batteries suffers from this.. yang tidak macam ni cuma bateri kereta saja kot LOL icon_idea.gif

low temp actually the batt are better at storing charge not self discharge la
it's too cold for the chemicals inside the batteries to react and produce charge, that's why you cant get it much power out from it

car batteries run on sulfuric acid..when temp drop below 0 deg....the water freeze la..how to have charge?

May I know, how many pics were you able to take with that battery.
Also, what camera are you using? brows.gif

Rebet XTi aka 450D, not much additional accesories besides Batt grip, i guess u probably need to get a battery grip for ur body in order to make ur battery last longer.... cant recall how many pics i took but with the battery grip, it last me for like 3 months after the next charge during winter, 20-30 shots once a week at least.

looks nice eh? but that comes with price. Those lake were frozen, i remembered it was very cold that time and i forgot to bring my glove when i took those pictures. if i'm not mistaken it was -5c with windchill, my fingers were so cold and pain (fingers are the slimmest part among the whole body and 'no' fat to support), for the first time i felt myself why am i torture myself for taking picture. sweat.gif So remember to wear glove to take pictures during winter.

Then you must've been very lucky because generally the lithium-ions would discharge itself in sub-zero temps.
