Newbie into photography, probably not into phatography (dont know yet, whether really got interested in this or not), but just wanna get a decent camera with good quality pics ...

want to buy an entry level camera, with a budget around 3K.
heard that 500d is very good with the HD movie, 15MP. but i think i rarely take movie with this camera.

but will the high ISO & MP (12k +, 15MP) in 500d, help to produce a better pics, compare to 1000d which give u a max of 1600k ISO & 10MP?

how bout the DIGIC Procs, where one is using DIGIC 3 & the other is DIGIC 4?

Got suggestion from friend to take a 1000d and buy some lens...

Dude, first thing 1000D and 500D are not comparable in class. You should compare it with D60,D3000 such cameras.Further,we actually have a specialized thread for asking recommendation. You should post it here instead http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/859016/+3000

Btw,if your budget is around 3k,should go for higher consideration like D5000,450D,or like u said 500D.

just get the basis 1000D 1st.
play around with it then decide whether you want to pursue/spend more money into this sinking fund hobby biggrin.gif

They say in photography (camera) bodies come and go, but lenses are here to stay.
The two cameras will give you perfect pictures, but the bigger factor is the lens used. So whether or not you choose to splash more cash on the camera body is solely up to your discretion. smile.gif

but will the body (camera) ISO have effect on the quality of the pics beside having a good lens, lets say in the nights?

If we keep adopting the "I'll wait for the next model as it's better" mentality we'll end up never buying the camera. smile.gif

Yes, the 500D can take photos at higher ISO, but then again higher ISO means more noise, no? tongue.gif
At this point I know people will be complaining about better image processors reducing noise and such, but if you ask me, yes better bodies do have better noise control and better algorithms, that's why I said the decision on whether to splash the extra cash on (camera)bodies ultimately is goes back to yourself. If you feel you want it, then get it =D

i advise u go for 500D if u have the money... or u can opt for 450D, specs more or less same as 500D jus without video recording only which i think u dont realli nit it... price 450D is around RM2600 and 1000D is ard RM2k but 450D is slightly better and faster... when u ready to upgrade, u dun nit to sell the older unit. Jus keep as spare so dont nit to change lens frequently.. 1 for telephoto and 1 for macro or potrait...

when u really addicted, get flash and a 200mm lens which I felt its really necessary...

I think he meant the 450D has 3.5 FPS whereas the 1000D has 3 FPS.

450d has 9 focus point while 1000d has 7 focus point.
this is really a big different if you taking picture for events and using low aperture lens.

We're lucky to have 7 AF Points on our cheapest entry-level DSLR body.
The entry-level Nikon is said to have only 3 AF Points...
