Depends on how often you use your lappy, for instance if you r a business man, of course you want to get a thin and light lappy since normal notebook is heavy and bulky, hard to bring around. If you r a student, then might as well get a good performance notebook at probably same or slightly higher cost.

Does these kind of ULV processor have enough power to handle photo, video and audio editing software?

Since gaming is not the first priority to run on these notebooks.

for such work, imho RAM plays a pretty big role... GPU would be an added bonus...

you may check out the some 12'' ultra portable notebook like the hp pavilion dv2 and msi wind u210x, both utilizing the new amd processor - athlon neo 64, which run at 1.6ghz. they r light weight and equipped with some decent ati graphic such as redeon 4300 for hp dv2....

So far, these thin and light notebook category uses what kind of technology to make them thin and light?

What material make up the chassis? Is it the art of polycarbonate or some strong and light metal?

Lower profile components. Size generally has plenty to do with heat emissions.

its just that they have lower heat output, so can slimmer without having much heat and also most of them don't have dvd-drive, so can get thinner.
material mostly still plastic with some exception aluminium lid.

More and more CULV notebook will be going to the market now.
Hopefully can get hands on for most of the major brands during the upcoming PC Fair 3 2009.

I heard ppl said that keyboard is one of the path for heat to release. If i put a rubber pad on it, does that means i avoid the heat to be release?

QUOTE(Miyabi @ Oct 30 2009, 10:35 PM)
if you always on the go, mobility is your priority. thenrefore, it worth to go with ULV notebook. its expensive than Atom, but it has better performance over it.

my priority when buying notebook usually goes like this:
1. lightweight
2. better batt. life
3. powerful
4. better built

of course powerful is not totally focus on how well the gpu is, but its overall performance for daily task.

anyway, like the rest mention, see what is your priority.
i vote for yes since mobility comes first when i were choosing the notebook smile.gif

cheers.

Dont forget: Keyboard must be full sized with a full sized RIGHT SHIFT KEY <--- seriously damn annoying in most netbooks

I got my UL80VT few days back (RM2999 though), with Windows 7 Home Premium.

In my opinion, it is the current best tech innovation that really suit my usage. I am a gamer, but not the hardcore type, of course. But I'm also a programmer, doing Photoshop as well, and of couse all sort of school works.

The reading on CPU-Z shows that it runs mostly on 2.1GHz... I didn't do any tweaking at all... Which speed is correct? I donno... It changes dynamiclly... 2.1GHz??? That's 110% compared to the "original" speed...

For other task, surely it handle them with ease. Already runs many heavy softwares on it, likes Photoshop and FLEX Builder.

It real nice I can switch to mode whenever I want to. Switch to low power mode (the CPU and mobo speed decrease), able to top battery usage at least 8 hours. Now I can go to my college sit whole day without even need to queue for plugs! (too many people in college but not enough plug... lol).
