Hi everyone

I would like to share with all of here with interesting mod that i've done, suitable for bling-bling modders.Im using lpt port (parallel port)for this mod.Since there are no such topic start in here,so here are the procedure to make this project.

WARNING: PC parallel port can be damaged quite easily if you make mistakes in the circuits you connect to it. If the parallel port is integrated to the motherboard (like in many new computers) repairing damaged parallel port may be expensive (in many cases it it is cheaper to replace the whole motherborard than repair that port)

** tested on windows XP & vista & Win 7 and it work like a charm**

PC parallel port is 25 pin D-shaped female connector in the back of the computer. It is normally used for connecting computer to printer, but many other types of hardware for that port is available today.

Items you need : 8x LED (any color)
8X resistor ( i use 1k ohm)
extra wires
Printer cable
Masking tape (heat shrink is more better)

Additional note : You can do more better by using IC board.Mine is for testing only laugh.gif

First of all, here are simple diagram, hope this help

You can make up to 8 LED,picture above is example of wiring diagram only smile.gif

1)1)Ok,lets begin the first step.Take the printer cable and cut the cable to female side using cutter. Then you should have 1 long cable with male connector in the end. After that, cut out the cable shield at the part you cut the female side. You should see a bunch wires and each got colors. So,to make sure what wires you should use, refer back to the male connector. You should see there are codes for each pin (look closely) at this male connector.

2)The pin in male connectors should have a number like this 1-13 and 14-25.So the male connector got 25 pins. The wires you should are number 2-7.So,check the connector back and look the pins 2,3,4,5,6,7 and look what color for each numbers.Usually number 2 pin should red color wire while number 3 pin should orange. For 4-7,just check it out by urself.Be careful while choosing the wires because there are wires with same colors. To differentiate between this to wires, there are some black or white lining.

3)Take the connectors and put the LED just like the picture above. The LED should be place in positive first which means the positive side is a left end of connector.

user posted image

4)Take the first wire (number 2 pin wire,is a red color one),strip it a little. Then take the resistor (any side) and twist the wire to the resistor and solder it.Then place the resistor in connector and tight the screw.

user posted image

5)Now the positive side is settle already, now the negative side turn. The number 2 row (from left) should be negative side. The -ve side of LED should already insert in connector. Take extra wire and cut it around 1 inch-1.5 inch.Strip it and it should place opposite of -ve LED leg (please refer to the picture).

6)Alright, +ve and -ve side for first LED is done. Now do it for second LED. Same procedure, just find number 3 pin and check the wire (look out the colors).Take the number 3 wire and strip it to twist with capacitor, then solder.Insert the resistor to the connector and tight the screw.Take the LED and place it just like number 3-4 procedure.

issit just me or no picture at all?

i've read about this mod before. using printer port. the prob is new computers dont have this prot anymore.

they're more thing u can do besides control led. u can connect to relays therefore controlling various equipments (doors, lights, etc). Up to your imagination. u can also write a simple VB program to make it more interactive.

kudos ts.!

7)Take a look at -ve LED for second LED,the small wire that connected for first LED (-ve leg) should connect with -ve for second LED.(please refer to picture). All the -ve extra wires should connect each of every -ve LED.

user posted image

8)You can make it till 8 LED (max). Finally, the last -ve extra wires should be connected with pin number 25.

user posted image
The arrow show that no.25 pin connected to last of -ve

9)Protect all resistor leg with masking tape or any tape (heat shrink is more better) for insulation purpose

Added on October 29, 2009, 4:04 pm10)Double check ur project again especially +ve and -ve orientation each of LED.

user posted image
You should get like this (little messy lar sweat.gif )

11)Plug it to parallel port and start the computer.

user posted image
Careful not to contact with the casing (worry if short-circuit sweat.gif )

12)If the project in good operational,u should see some blinking or all of LED is light up.If not, just reach to the desktop first.

user posted image

13)Now for windows procedure, you should copy this files name 'inpout32.dll' to window system folder (default is C/windows/system)

14)Then extract LLE folder to anywhere u want and execute 'LLE' application. The software should open up like pictures above.Look out the effect of LED to see ur project is operational like normal.

LLE application

U can control flash speed here too thumbup.gif

Please download LLE software here

LLE software

P/s-- 1)U can choose what ever color u want and placement of LED. I place it green x3,blue x2 and 2x red color LED ( I do 7 LED for this project,so
lazy to add the last LED,but still can work lor.Put 1 LED for this project also can)
2)If all LED not working, check the BIOS,make sure ur parallel port is on (enable) *(preferably 0378-037F)
3)Still not working? Recheck u wiring again.
4)im not sure the capacitor OHM value, but i use 1K ohm, maybe 450 ohm also can (im noobie in electronic)
5)Im not responsible for any kind of possible damages

Good luck rolleyes.gif

I already try with WINAMP (dunno what version) last month, and its work like a charm with plugin called discolitez and LED flashing, but after i format my computer and try to installed it,there are some error, dunno why it happen. rclxub.gif.But for sure,no windows media player plugin for this mod.

IMO,maybe it will work on vista X64 since the inpout.dll got 64 bit ,but still i never try for vista 64 bit and window 7.Perhaps that LLE software also work on 64bit wink.gif

yeah,so far okay, but recently i change to 450ohm (if im not mistaken) and the flash is brighter than 1k ohm. watt? dunno what watt for this LED sweat.gif .But its bright and cheap too.

Added on October 30, 2009, 11:46 amRecently i tried this project for LFS (live for speed game), you can control LED to follow the REV,Rev limit and so on ..But failed, nothing happen la. I wonder who could make the VB project.
