If your area supports 4MB, go for 4MB, since there's only RM20 differences in the price but twice the speed.
This however, will turn into a waste if you are not a hardcore downloader.
Even 2MB will turn into waste of money if you don't fully utilize the speed.

Hmm, can't seem to find the manual for your modem, give me a few more minutes, I'll check thoroughly.

Found it.
Okay, run Internet Explorer or Firefox or whatever it is you use to browse the internet, input 192.168.1.1 into the address bar, go to Status then DSL Connection.
From there, look for Downstream Rate & Upstream Rate.
The Downstream Rate will tell you the maximum speed of your area.

That's strange, I've never seen that kind of Downstream before.
I've only seen 512K, 1024K, 1536K, 2048K & 4096K.

Restart your modem, let the modem reconnect to Streamyx.
Once it connected, check the downstream again.

PS: Just turn off the modem for 10 seconds & then turn it back on.

3 year contract?
Suspicious!

Maybe Streamyx wants to lock down their customers because better offering on the horizon?

I think 1 year contract cukup.

Your DSL is unstable right now.
It should either be 1024K / 1536K / 2048K.

To know the real maximum speed of your area, you'll have to wait until the DSL is fully stable and then it'll show one of those three I've written above.
However, my dibs on the maximum speed of your area is 2048K.

Check back tomorrow morning after you woke up, restart the modem and check the downstream again.
Don't worry, the DSL being unstable is pretty normal, it happens alot to me for the first 3 years of using Streamyx, now it's already more than 5 years & now my DSL is fully stable at 2048K, no more fluctuations, not even for a minute.

PS: My DSL only went fully stable after 3 years of shouting to TM Customer Service LOLz! laugh.gif

Not the same.
You can sell off your Honda anytime but what you gonna do, cancel your 3 year streamyx few months later because gpt better BB deal from elsewhere?

Same like bank la, when getting better FD returns for long holding period, you can be sure there will be a rate hike in the near term.

Too bad for you then.
Well, there's no need to upgrade your streamyx, since I believe the maximum speed you got for the downloads should be around 160Kbp/s ~ 220Kbp/s.
Even if you upgrade your Streamyx to 2Mb, you will only be getting a maximum speed of 200Kbp/s ~ 230Kbp/s.

^Don't really understand how TM can do business like that. If I were you, I will just cancelled the existing broadband package immediately and then reapplied a new one. BY then you should be considered a new subscriber isn't it?

guys, I need ur kind feedback.. I hv been using streamys at 1mbps for almost two years.. price is at RM77... and I only pay for streamyx because the telephone line is under my parents name.

but now, I am moving to a new house on my own.. at serdang area.. If i were to move my streamyx this time I have to bare the telephone line rental cost.

I want to know hw good is streamyx compare to other broadband services. I am not a heavy user.. recently I got to know U mobile broadband plan at RM68 with fair usage policy.. 3.6mbps unlimited data.

is streamyx is still good compare to this? I never used other broadband before, so far streamyx is okay to me not to say good just okay.
