OBJECTIVE:

-To move all parts from old casing to another old casing biggrin.gif ...which is from CM stacker STC01 to Lian Li PC-7B+.
-Cut out proc cooler hole
-Cut out holes to enable better cable management
-Extend the front Audio wires to reach the back of the mobo
-Sleeve(using heat-shrink) most of the cables
-Add "anti-vibration" foam strips inside the whole casing
-Spray paint Flat black internally
-others(fabricate fan bracket for gfx, etc)

INTRO:

I'm in the midst of rebuilding my current rig...transferring all my stuff from my current casing, Coolermaster Stacker ST-C01 into an old school Lian Li PC-7B Plus.

I had earlier gotten a PC-A05B, which I quite like. However, I had wanted to mod the casing, ie. cut out holes/slots here and there, hence I did not have the heart to do so(chop-chop) on such a beautiful casing. wub.gif

Luckily, my friend, forumer Grexer, was looking for such a similar casing...and he offered to take the PC-A05B. I had then sourced out a used case, also a Lian Li, the PC-7B+, from another forumer, E-J@1.

Thanks to Grexer and E-J@1.

Anyway, my budget for this rebuild is small, and the bulk of the $$$ went to some new parts:
-Corsair VX450W
-CCF
-Sapphire 4850 512mb
-TR-FDB-2000 case fans
-memory card reader
-Powerlogic Zen z200 keyboard

Reusing old parts:
-Asus Commando
-E8400
-Crucial 4x1gb rams
-HDD
-DVD burner

THE WORKS:

Work started out the next day after getting the case:
-Stripping out everything
user posted image
-No more bolts/screws/plastic parts etc...just chassis smile.gif
user posted image
-Holes were cut out: Cooler holes, PSU holes
user posted image
-case was sprayed black, with the help of a friend who does car painting
user posted image
user posted image
-all the other plastic parts were fixed in again
user posted image
-"anti-vibration" foam were applied on fan holes, on all other parts where the alu panels meet...trying to reduce as much vibration as possible
user posted image
-the front fan hole had been trimmed off the filter support as well
user posted image
-after the "anti-vibration" strips were applied, the complete casing were "test-installed" to see if all the panels closed completely...

...to be continued...and thanks for visiting... notworthy.gif

Was thinking of cutting a 12cm blowhole at the top...but would have to complete the rig first and see whether is't necessary for a bigger blowhole...

I hope to work towards getting equalized pressure, or at least, minimal negative pressure/flow in the case...too negative would cause dust to move in too much... sweat.gif

very sorry for the crap pics...can't take photographs properly... doh.gif

Anyway, was very glad to receive a package from forumer "Edifier" yesterday(21st oct09)...my last piece of the "puzzle" rclxms.gif

The package was neat and well packed..thumbs up thumbup.gif

One thing I noticed about these aftermarket fans...their cables are not sleeved...they should do it...IMHO.
Anyway, I heat-shrinked/sleeved the fans...

That was all I could do...could only work on the project this coming Sunday... doh.gif

thanks! notworthy.gif

the heat shrink can be bought from any electronic shops that sell eletronic components, such as capacitors, resistors, PCBs etc.. places like jalan pasar and so on...

as for the price, I can't remember, as I got the sleeves of various sizes along time ago...for some work projects...

It looks like tube, as the size used was abit bigger... biggrin.gif didn't want to remove the pins from the connector individually, so I used a slightly bigger diameter sleeve to "masuk" sekali with the connector...so when heated, it doesn't shrink tightly...

u should have just removed the header....its not that hard to remove....

also sleeving entirely with heatshrink will make the cable stiff....

yeah...should have removed the header... doh.gif

as for the making the cables stiff...you are right...I intended to do so, as once I have placed the cables to where I want it to be, i will reheat the cables again, and then "shape" the cables to follow the bendings of the casing once it cools off...my "usual way" of doing things cheaply... sweat.gif

hi there. you can read in this posting... http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/387771

basically, +ve pressure in the case would mean that your intake is taking in more air, hence increasing voloume of air inside the case...

for -ve pressure in the case, your exhaust is pushing out more air out of the case, hence creating a "vacuum-like" effect...

some people would say that an even pressured case would be ideal for case cooling, whereby the same volume of air is taken into the case and the same volume of air is expelled out of the case...

however, in real life, it's not always the case....

so -ve pressure would be easier to achieve, whereby you ensure the exhaust fan has higher cfm than the intake...

how would you know if your case has -ve pressure...your case will be more dusty at a faster rate... laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

The Pc7 came with a side panel already...but the window material is "glass"...not those plexi, but real glass(kaca!)

anyhow, I'm gonna make a similar add-on device as per Lian Li's BS-02 additional blower fan...though mine will be custom diy... biggrin.gif if the need be...

I did noticed that the Pc7b+ did not have any vibration damping devices, as compared to the A05B that I had earlier...

that's why I had implemented those anti-vibration strips(strips of "sponge lining") on all metal parts which goes together.

This include the both side panels, whereby when closed, there will be a thin lining of the strips inbetween. Also, the strips were used on the rear expansion panels, the fan mounting areas, the HDD cage(where it's bolted onto case), the area whee the HDD sits, the DVD drive sits, and all other places where metal and metal have contact...

so now those areas which have metal to metal contacts...have at least a thin strip of the "anti-vibration"...all implemented from the study of the A05B case biggrin.gif

why dont u just change the glass to plexi biggrin.gif?.. a 2/3mm plexi glass would be nice and easy to mod into a blowhole imo, looks the same too.. u could also try to do a blowhole on a glass, but it'll be harder unless u buy those RM220 sawhole =X which only comes in 1 size..
