I used the bitumen strip from hardware shop on my last ride..The quality if bitumen strip is same with bitumen sound proof material that I bought from someone said it use as sound proof material

Bitumen strip from hardware much cheaper from the one that claimed to be sound proof material.

I really satisfied my DIY..door closing must like conti car.very solid and heavy.Sound sys more better.

To be honest, I saw those material as well in ACE Hardware/. but the Butlyn is totally different texture... I can assure you those from ACE Hardware will melt under hot sun.

Mind to share what brand and where to purchase the materials??

Sorry , I forgot the brand

I always used that bitumen strip on fixing roof top leaking for my client..

Even direct sun heat on metal roof top do not melt those bitumen strip , so I don't think so it will melt inside the door panel .Maybe I used better bitumen strip for industrial used since I work in const line

Maybe you can start selling it here as soundproof materials...hahahah

For construction usage, I don't think it has anything bigger than 3"...

If they have, then they wouldn't have to come and get it from my supplier also lor... smile.gif

Bitumen strips for cars one is modified butyl base...so it can withstand higher temperature...

As for the hardware store, some can withstand high temp but some can't. so it depends on what brand u can get.

if unlucky, u'll experience butyl leaking fr ur door right below the door where there are holes for water to drain.

So buy a small strip then paste a small patch 1st..monitor over a month..if it doesn't melt then its ok to use it.

hahah the sponge one is pain in this ass... stick it on metal and its easy to take out but it will leave some residue on the metal. like double sided lah.

and for materials like superlon they have the tendency to squek when fitted into small areas. cause by the glue i think.

use spray based soundproofing... usually soundproofing is done inside part of a panel, where paint job is not necessary.

but deifinitely paint is not gonna disturb / destroy the soundproofing

good to know, thanks biggrin.gif

is DIYing soundproof really that hard? if trying to apply on big and uneven surface for example our car's boot, how should we apply the soundproof? should we cut it into pieces or just paste it one big piece?

I would suggest to cut it into smaller pieces...not to small or else it will really be a lot of job for you to do. But smaller pieces you can apply the materials to a better effect, at least it can dampen the surface proper...

Use something solid to apply pressure to your dampening materials, so it sticks better and get rid of air bubbles.

If you choose to use insulation materials on car metal surface, then good luck. smile.gif
