pros: convenience of installation, cost saving
cons: poor sound quality, most likely will introduce various noises into the system

mostly 1k plus, if 2nd hand maybe can get just under 1k, but these arent purely hi-lo convertors, they are equilisers or other type of signal processors that can accept speaker level input, and convert it to rca output.

Izit possible to reduce the noise etc with this setup?

HU with HI output > normal Hi to lo converter adapter > electronic x-over > amp > speakers/sub

Could an electronic x-over balance the sound quality with some tuning?

I have tried the JL Clean Sweep which is some sort of h-lo converter too. Doesn't sound nice to me as it sounded too flat since it defeats all sorts of equalization on the HU. I don't think there are many processors out there can beat a standalone HU in terms if SQ with the same cost. Well, if u insist on using the ori HU, then the hi-low converter is the only cheapest option that is available to connect to your amp (unless u have an amplifier that accepts speaker input).

xover only splits the signal to different amps, the noise will still be there....

simple answer is NO, the signal is still transported in speaker level...

its a compromise la, u get convenience at the expense of sound quality

if ur hu are those un-moddable type, then get genesis hi-low converter cost u near 400....the sound is clean and full....those rm30-50 converter will only convert certain frequency, normall you only get from 80hz-12khz. These converter only can accept up to 8-12RMS of hi input, higher than that will distort.
