falcon16: when will u enroll to KTU? I heard it's only open at March each year...? So that means it will be next year, right?

Btw, anyone knows what do fighter pilots do throughout their career? Well, Malaysia isn't really been in any war...

similar to any other military in the world...peace time soldiering would be training for war.... conduct multilateral exercises with foreign countries, go all over the world to train....training and more training..... nod.gif

QUOTE(mocha0810 @ Oct 6 2009, 11:22 AM)
about there la....depending on ur ranks.... flying allowances should be more than RM3k now.... 13 years as lieutenant?? it cant be la... most of my squadmates are already a Major by then....well, unless u are really reput la.... fail promotion exams... haha
*
not 13 years as lieutenant, but serve in RMAF for 13years,means contract,u must finished ur 13years contract before u can retire from military..pilot is very easly to get higher rank than other...one of the qualification to be Chief of Airforce must be pilot...

Added on October 6, 2009, 9:31 pmbut waste ur time coz u must take diploma even u already finished ur form6

Hi Harfan..great to know patriotism still alive and kicking...flying needs passion and patience..better to clear out all the grey area before making any nice and cool hobby into full time career moreover if it's military..whatever it is...trust in urself and be prepared to face the challege..and remember..it's an air force..not PLKN or scout regime..papabaik's post above is the most well said bout fighter pilot..yes they need to be the creme de la creme but above all..one must able to 'absorb the environment'...and the environment factor might come in all sorts of way..nuff of the melancholic intro aite...?..;-)...now to answer ur question..

The one and only way to become a fighter pilot is through RMAF. To join RMAF as pilot is through Air Force College/UTM twinning programme where u'll be completing the whole 3 yrs Aero Eng diploma programme in Air force College (KTU) Alor Setar. For the diploma program passing requirement,is as decreed by UTM and passing the program is a pre-requisite before one is sent to Air Force Basic Flying School Pulatibang 1 (PLTB1). Application is open yearly and advertised in local news paper. The only time u'll go to UTM Skudai is on the convocation day for the dip award ceremony where u'll join other UTM students in the procession. The 1st 5 semesters class will be carried out daily Mon-Fri from 0800Hrs-1600Hrs and evening onwards and Saturday is military training as u're also an air force cadet. The 6th semester is when u'll join PLTB1 for basic flying as ur industrial training requirement needed to pass the dip prog(and be commissioned as full liutenant RMAF). Once u get the diploma u'll continue to train in PLTB1 in order to get flying wing qualifying u as an air force pilot. (that's another 1 yr/1.5 yrs training fm the 6th semester joining.) The selection as a fighter/transport/helos will be a different story altogether and is independant of your diploma CGPA so basically if u completed ur diploma and pass the flying training u'll become pilot but if along the way one flung his flying training then he/she'll have an option of either to be navigator/WSO/engineer...etc. As for the bond signing it used to be 10 yrs inclusive the 1st 4 years u spent on diploma and flying so u're looking at 6 yrs of active officer duty...but now i'm not very sure of the duration. How the life like...??another different story altogether...hope these infos help. Heck..there's no such thing as free lunch..haha..hopefully these infos can motivate u to do some research and we'll discuss them again here..at least u can practise ur 'absorb the environment' skill....cheers mate.

wow...such a nice, detailed and long explaination...just what I'm looking for, thanks HawkerMaya.

Well, your info definitely clear out some grey areas about the career. Is it by any chance, you are a pilot for RMAF yourself??

yes you may but it's a different program..it's gonna be a (GO) graduate officer scheme where u'll get ur rank 1st as liutenant and then start ur military module training for around 10-12 months. However the GO's are mainly streamed to other field i.e engineering, ATC, air defence, admin...etc...as the flying candidates for pilot training are normally selected from the diploma cadets (3 years training as cadets then commissioned as liutenant). But there are occasions where the GO's can apply for flying training later2 on but it's a non-guaranteed.
