You need a FUSE Filesystem Daemon in case your problem remains unresolved. More details at http://www.airkayu.com/content/ubuntu-8xx-...een-local-users

just go to gnome menu find
places -> connect to server -> you machine ip
just make sure you got ftp server installed first

or you can use scp or rsync. the command is similar, but underneath is different. it is based on ssh. which by then need to install openssh server. that is command line, but the connect to server menu seems to have ssh.

which is really in repository.

i just think it does not make sense to use a protocol that is quirky, and reverse engineered, to run of 2 computer running the os, that the protocol do not support for the first place.

try NFS, its pretty easy to configure. it just that u need to know the ip or the hostname.
try this link... http://www.ubuntugeek.com/nfs-server-and-c...-in-ubuntu.html
