We need about 25-30 gms of fiber daily. Most of our Malaysian diets give us about 15 gms if you eat your quota of fruits and vegetables.

There should be both soluble and insoluble fiber.
Soluble fiber - oats, bran, nuts, fruits
Insoluble fiber - wholewheat products, root veg, veg skin, fruit skin.

Soluble fiber acts as a sponge while insoluble fiber acts like a brush to clean.

Of course drink plenty of water to wash away the dirt.

You also need calcium/magnesium to help move the "rubbish " along your small intestines.

If you are not able to get that amount of fiber in your diet you can also try fiber drinks.

PM me if you would like more info.

Besides fibers ,prune juice, papayas, laxative products, you can try out coffee, it will give you a mild diarrhea.

If you are having constipation on a permanent basis try some of the earlier suggestions.

Chronic constipation can lead to piles when you strain too much during your bowel movement.
So it is always best to avoid that kind of situation.

Of course there are laxatives available but dependency on them will mean you will never do it on your own after a while.

I have not heard about caffeine as a way to relieve copnstipation. It in fact depletes your water and should be avoided.
So if you are a coffee drinker you need to drink more water to compensate for the loss.

Laxatives are not advisable. Well, a banana after meal would just do the trick.

hi pizzaboy, ya is true can get fiber from fruits and vegetables, but sometime due to my hectic schedule sometime is not easy to pick up a fruit and eat it or get as much vegetable during meals, as u know tend to end up in fast food... That why need something extra to add in my eating habit to clear off the waste. As least have some other forums knowledge to share about.

Prunes work very well from what I've heard.

But if all the things above doesn't work, you might wanna go for an X-Ray or those micro cameras from you bum. It might be complications like big intestines are tied up together causing blockage due to injury etc (no joke).

The micro cameras u mentioned are actually fibre-optic scopes. The procedure is called colonoscopy. It is able to visualise the large intestine to look for any problems such as tumours or small polyps or bleeding. However, it is not recommended that everybody gets one cos it can be rather unpleasant. Unless the TS is >50 years old, or has a family history of colon cancer.

As mentioned by the forummers here, u can take all those high fibre food & fruits & also lots of water (>1.5 L per day). Also try this natural high fibre supplement: Psyllium husk. It can be found in most pharmacies.
