Most banks cap the maximum CC CL to RM250K, so RM150K is just not there yet.

As far as I know, Citibank can approve a CL of as high as RM450k to a platinum cardholder.

For your information, you can't pay for your car here in Malaysia using a credit or charge card.
*

Unlike some western countries, in Malaysia you cannot pay your car price in full using cc. However, some car dealers are willing to let you swipe your cc for booking fee or downpayment even without imposing surcharge. Same thing applies to purchasing a property from big developers.

any reason for the rejection? Which bank he applied for? Maybe international banks will have better acceptance rate for foreigners.

That's the sad part. Imagine how many points I can get, paying for my university, house loan, car loan...

I have used my credit card for downpayment and booking fees at several car dealers including used ones.

Traders Not Allowed To Impose Surcharge On Credit Card Purchase

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Traders, in principle, are not allowed to impose a surcharge on purchase made using credit cards, the Dewan Rakyat was told on Monday.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah said the restriction was in line with the regulation set by credit card brands such as MasterCard Worldwide and Visa International, and the terms spelled out in the agreement between traders and merchant acquirers.

"Card holders can actually inform the merchant acquirers or credit card issuers on the surcharge by submitting proofs, such as receipts, so that investigation can be carried out.

"Card holders can also choose not to buy from traders who impose the surcharge," he said in reply to Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan (BN-Kota Belud) at the Dewan Rakyat on Monday.

Abdul Rahman wanted to know whether traders were allowed to impose a surcharge of two per cent for purchase using credit cards, and described such an act as a "daylight robbery."

To a question from Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Serdang) on the rational for the annual RM50 service tax imposed on principal credit cards, Ahmad Husni said it was to promote prudent spending.

He said many individuals were holding a number of credit cards despite their limited income.

we will never ever managed to get the PROOF of the 2% charges on credit card.

the merchant wont be so "nice" until give you the receipts showing the 2% charges.

mostly the merchant will required us to pay cash for 2% on top of the purchases which charge to CC.

should i ask, did any1 managed to get such PROOF?

hmm...just remembered ALL IT Hypermarket puts it on the receipt as "admin charges" but actually...anyone can use those spy pen or a tape recorder and record the cashier's words on the charges. These alone are sufficient to be used in court, not to mention make the Dewan Rakyat start their own investigation.

if you really want the proof, buy one item using credit card
then buy the same item again using cash after that

now you hv two receipts with the same item on the same day with different prices

but who's willing to do this??

Well, most IT shops actually got their backs covered as their price list is "Cash Price". So it's still debatable on the 2% surcharge price.

Personally (and I guess everyone) would not like to be surcharged for paying with credit card. But if this policy is strictly enforced, the prices will all just be hiked up by 2% regardless we pay by card or cash to cover the merchant's transaction cost with the banks. Doubt this policy will ever be effectively enforced like every other "rules" in this country.

Retailers can't charge a 2% credit card surcharge but they can give a 2% cash discount. So put a price, give a 2% discount if you're paying cash.

Either way I believe this is hard to enforce and personally I like it because as a consumer I have the choice and competition is at its best in places like LYP

If Mastercard/Visa is serious about this, we can report to them and they go to the retailer to personally check it out. Don't even need to buy anything, just ask, any surcharge for credit card?

I guess they don't have the resources to do so... but why not catch a few and slap them with a hefty fine to deter others?
