I cant find any specific thread on Panoramic photog in this forum. So I open new thread that dedicate forumers to share their techniques, samples etc. Hope MOD wont mind tongue.gif

What is Panoramic Photography?

Panoramic photography is a technique of photography, using specialised equipment or software, that captures images with elongated fields of view. It is sometimes known as wide format photography. The term has also been applied to a photograph that is cropped to a relatively wide aspect ratio. While there is no formal division between "wide-angle" and "panoramic" photography, "wide angle" normally refers to a type of lens, but this lens type does not necessarily image a panorama. An image made with an ultra wide angle fisheye lens covering the normal film frame of 1:1.33 is not automatically considered to be a panorama. An image showing a field of view approximating, or greater than, that of the human eye - about 160° by 75° - may be termed panoramic. This generally means it has an aspect ratio of 2:1 or larger, the image being at least twice as wide as its height. The resulting images take the form of a wide strip. Some panoramic images have aspect ratios of 4:1 and sometimes 10:1, covering fields of view of up to 360 degrees. Both the aspect ratio and coverage of field are important factors in defining a true panoramic image.

For example, Im using D90 with Kitlens (18-105mm) so It was difficult for me to take full frame images of lanscape. So this is what I did, I snap few photos at 18mm, stitched them together in image stitcher software. Theres a few software, but I use PTGui as newbie. We also can use CS2, CS3 etc.

Sample of 4 photos:

Hehe..ok, if you see the example that I post, u will know how I did it. Normally I'll snap from left to right, as my 18mm lens cant cover the whole image (ex:building) as I shown in my first post. You can stitches all your images manually, or with the help of software. In my case, I like to use PTGui, as it really user friendly for a starter panographers. If you already installed Photoshop CS2 or CS3, you can try with File > Automate > Photomerge

HOpe this helps laugh.gif

I use Photoshop CS3, it is pretty straighforward. Just go to Automate, Merge, Select your pictures and voila, its done smile.gif

Crop it and you got very own panoramic shot smile.gif

i use photoshop CS3. the stitching is handles easily BUT here's the thing, when using UWA like the Sigma 10-20, sometimes the distortion goes a bit beyond what photoshop could evaluate, hence stitching fail.

anyway, here are my panos..........

(anyone of you know that guy?)

there are others pano shots but not online, like my friend's wedding where i did a pano of the dinner ballroom.

oh btw, if you wonder why my shots seem weird, that's the distortion matter...........

take note that shot #1 was like almost 360 degree of the place! I was standing on stage and pivot to shoot all over.

#2 was about 270 - 320 degrees view i suppose.

#3 was 180 degrees view. biggrin.gif
