My phone was stolen by a pickpocket on the LRT Friday morning.
I was in a rush to my convocation, until late afternoon, then I rushed to survey prices for a new phone (because it's really important to me that I am contactable).
Yesterday I woke up late (the temporary alarm clock that I borrowed from a housemate wasn't working, I use my phone for alarm purposes) and had to rush to my friend's convocation, then the rest of the day was spent looking for and purchasing a new phone.
Is it too late to lodge a police report today (Sunday) or Monday?
It'll be 2-3 days after the incident then.
However, I do have the serial number of my stolen phone, so I am holding on to a VERY FAINT glimpse of hope that it MIGHT be traced down and returned to me if I lodge a police report.
Would they layan me if I lodge a report, say, later this evening or tomorrow morning?
I'm on the fence since I don't think anything will be done even if I lodged a report, yet that shimmer of hope is telling me to go make a report no matter what so that the record is there and my phone's serial number would be filed as a stolen phone's.
Any opinions? icon_question.gif

Don't hope that police will help you look for the hand phone but this is what happened to my friend last time.

Her hand phone got snatched by a motorist who pretend to borrow your hand phone. So after that she attempt to call her own number, a day later the number got thru, a guy picked up the call, when asked he claimed that he bought this "2nd hand" phone.

And so she offered to buy back the handphone at a double price, and then make a police report mentioning the story, and then we have the poor fella who seem to be a 2nd hand cheap sale buyer stupid enough to show up, police officers jumped the guy and bring him back to balai.

No, police is unlikely to take any action, there is just too many missing handphone everywhere. Consider your handphone lost in space.

But it is still very important to lodge a police report.

It is very important and your responsibility to lodge a police report, it is police's business if they taking any action or not. By logging police report on every crime will make you become part of statistic, with this statistic the neighbourhood can bargain for more police forces to guard the area, and hence a safer home.

I'm not sure about stolen phone cases but I know that you can lodge a report even years after the crime has been committed.

Someone close to me confided in me that she had been raped when she was still a teenager, and due to her embarrassment and fear she never told anyone about it till recently. Since it was a rape case and the culprit was still roaming loose, I encouraged her to lodge a police report. She did and the guy was taken into questioning. But since it was around 10 years ago the police couldnt do much. The guy confessed and he apologized sincerely to my friend so she decided that she wouldnt press charges. (Just in-case you're wondering, the guy wasnt a serial rapist or anything, they were friends before and it just happened).

So the police can still take action even if the crime happened very long ago, the law transcends time. I hope you get your phone back soon ^^

What's the point of lying in a police report?

So that I can be part of the statistics in theft crime.
If no one wants to lodge police report because they think it's troublesome, no one will know how many crimes are happening and steps won't be taken to prevent/banish it (that is, if they even bother to these days).

I blocked the number 15 minutes after it was stolen.
I have a new SIM card now with my previous number.
That SIM is rendered useless.

But rape cases and theft cases are cases of a very different magnitude.

It's too late to do that (call my own number), since I immediately blocked the SIM and got myself a new SIM (same number) now.

I agree with your opinions on the importance of lodging police report. thumbup.gif

better prepare a polis report, n dun give false statement.
if u mention 2 hrs ago, possibility the cop able to catch the thief. But u gave a wrong info he got a good alibi for the time u mention, den no charge can go against him.

so sad to hear about it .. just make the polis report and hope for the best.. never to late and polis stations are 24/7 so u can even do it now . but do it at the nearest polis station where you've been pickpocketed.. long shot of getting it back . but who knows . smile.gif

i think the police will assist you at the counter because honestly as some forumer mentioned this is of a different magnitude crime. even if you report to FBI also what you think they will do?

take their fancy radars out and do sci-investigation and go round looking for suspects and witnesses meh?

TS, just take it as a lesson so next time you'll be more aware of your surroundings. In every loss, you gain something, in this case it's the experience so next time you'll be careful

IMO, there is no hope to find your missing items back.

Therefore, I didn't bother to make a police report when i got mine stolen at Midvalley KTM station.

However, I learnt a lesson.. D;
