Supposedly it only affects US and HK sites, but the connection to europe seems to be severely affected as well.

It would appear that TM's undersea cables have a big sign painted on it that says "EAT ME GODZILLA EAT ME". Either that or there are undersea pirate ninjas that chop up undersea cables on schedule every month. Having problems accessing US related websites at the moment.

HK and US sites down. Well i can say that US sites have slight impact and whats funny is sites to JP and KR seems to be heavily effected. 600~700ms with high chance of timeout during speedtest?

I wonder how much they have paid for their best ISP of the year award.

I sense this thread is turning into a rants thread. Other than submarine APCN2 cable issue.

Well, everything seems fine here. Facebook is decent, as well as youtube.

Err. Not everyone here downloads from filehippo, mind posting the link here so that I can test? ( Only post if it's LEGAL )
tongue.gif

But for me, downloading driver updates from International source all less than 9KB/s when previously can hit 180KB/s

Also i received a call from TM today... i'll just quote my post in another thread...

QUOTE
I've just receive a call from, if I've not mistaken, TM's top management. It is expected that the slowdowns might continue to 5th August, but might be solved earlier.

There is nothing much they can do as it's a fault at the international countries linkage link point, which cause them to lose almost 20Gbps of bandwidth. It was also said that they are "salvaging" every little bit of bandwidth available for users.

I think that explains why downloads are so slow it's quite hard to download almost anything in US for me, youtube seems to be throttled too, but normal webpages are still loading within reasonable time.

INTERNET SERVICES DISRUPTION

Dear Valued Customers,

Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ wishes to announce that there has been a disruption of its Internet services due to circuit faults on the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) Segment 1 between Kuantan and Katong, Singapore.

Due to the disruption, customers using Internet services may experience slow browsing while accessing websites hosted in the U.S. and Hong Kong.

In addition, customers using other IP services such as Virtual Private Network (VPN) and other critical business applications linked to the U.S. and Hong Kong may also experience some service degradation.

To alleviate the problem, some of the links have been rerouted to alternate routes to ease the congestion.

Restoration works on the affected cables are already in progress. However, in the restoration process, traffic to Northern America and Hong Kong may experience degradation while traffic to other countries is not affected. TM expects complete recovery of its services by 5 August 2009. TM will make further announcements on the progress of the restoration works.

TM wishes to assure its customers that it is undertaking all necessary measures to restore communications services for its customers as soon as possible.
