Mentality like this is what f***s everyone up. Just because you don't hear it happening here, does not mean it won't happen.
*

the mentality is wrong, however the message it is "conveying" isn't.
with current japan's social situations and what not, its really not surprising when people are falling for 2D more and more.

of course, what works there, may not work anywhere else. case in point: doing this shit in malaysia would prolly get you arrested or people living REALLY BAD permanent impressions of you.

i wouldnt say its getting worse, i would its been like that ever since,
just that the media only stumble bout now.
*

it is *somewhat* getting worse.

japan's reported marriage/birthrate is decreasing at rather alarming rates LOL
although imo, aint it a good thing? you know, world's pretty overpopulated as it is anyways LOL

not suprised at all...seriously. Melonpan (a retire otaku from Europe) had done this before, and I saw many ronery otakus had done the same, even some of them brings along a full sized momoko dolls and bring them as they were in holiday or something.

Any Malaysian otaku dare to try?

maybe you are. No, you already are when you bring your keroro bag on last daicon. Though not a pillow but still, your bag is big enough for people to notice. Since it is Daicon, we feel normal for that.

this is malaysia where having ministerial level meeting under the tree would go directly into headline. otakuism for me is not dangerous as long as they (otaku) didn't commits any serious damages over public and go to work get paid as normal person. otaku is not a lifestyle that will prohibits you from going to pray to god or play futsal. otaku is just a name. and love for 2-d is not as bad as it showed. as long as u still love the real human opposite your gender not the same gender please.

well... that's true. sooner or later people will start wearing only undergarments.

about that 'not harming anyone' part. Though not actualy harming anyone, he actually create a trend or awareness which some people might get curious and follow. Sooner or later, that trend will become a normal occurence just like the old days where rape cases are low but now it is like an all time high, we now regard rape cases as normal occurence.
*

by we, i hope its just you. /shrug

just because YOU think rape cases getting higher are normal to you, doesnt mean everyone else regards it the same.

Well, whenever i go to a cafeteria and saw people reading newspapers; they sometimes say 'asyik asyik kes rogol, takde kes lain ke?' which makes me think that people are already think that it is normal.

back to the topic. I also have the same 'syndrome' where i still keep Misha (from Ar Tonelico) as my wallpaper and can't seem to be able to change the wallpaper. Well, i adore her and see her as a standard. I mean, I want my future wife or girlfriend to be someone like her (Misha's personality, not looks). I doubt that i will become like that Nisan guy, bringing along pillow everywhere. Misha is still just my wallpaper on my pc.

- otaku is basically a culture, and to some, even regarded as a religion

- in modern world mindset, homosexuality is fine. and is proven to not spread aids (shrug) by just being homosexual.

of course, im an atheist and thus i am not restricted by religion in my thinking and therefore making such statements as i am now.

darn...I've been rickrolled by Melonpan...demmm...

btw, Malaysian otaku still safe la, just some of the mass media and tabloids such as Harian Metro suka kacau otaku scene...ada ka figurin g-taste yg rege RM 200 tu budak sekolah nak beli?? kalo beli pon tu mmg da hobi dia kot!

Malaysia still can't understand the concept of otaku. Most of them ingat otaku ni minat anime ngan cosplay je...BEEP!! WRONG!!
