QUOTE(pikaphebat @ Jul 6 2009, 08:31 PM) It's a 24 month contract and the prices are almost the same as last year's 3g except more plans. Anyway, for existing iphone user the upgrade is so expensive which is 600. I am currently in this dilemma and paying 600 does not terminate your previous contract but it runs concurrently. So if let say i stop working in Singapore before next year August, then its gonna cost me 800+800 for those 2 contracts.. crazy.. u've already payed the 600 now. Really in dilemma. Maybe i'll skip this one as the jump from 3g and 3gs are not that much. If u could hold on the temptation, just hold back the purchase as the termination is kinda hefty, $600 x 2.45 = RM1470 and provided that ur contract has lapsed more than 6 mths. Unless ur existing 3G can fetch better value and if u got the 1st phone at nominal price.. but then again, if that's what ur required to pay ($600 only) for termination for the remaining contract period, it's worth considering to purchase the new phone and your contract will be reset back to 24. Your money, you decides. QUOTE(k3v1n @ Jul 6 2009, 09:23 PM) Hi i also plan to sign a 3GS at singtel, but i won't going to use the plan as im in malaysia, based on your all opinion, does it worth to sign? If ur not using it in Singapore, then no point for u to sign their plans. I'm not sure whether ur allowed to sign their plan unless ur holding PR / Work Permit / Employment Pass / Student Pass. QUOTE(beavis68 @ Jul 6 2009, 10:16 PM) if base on d cheapest plan rate on d chart...... it seem like iphone 3GS 32gb will cost around RM3,300 - RM3,500 (with current singapore currentcy S$1 = RM2.43) If u forget about the price plan (call rates & monthly commitments) you get the 32GB under iOnePlus @ $848 x 2.45 = RM2078!!! it's still cheaper compared to what current Maxis packages. right? QUOTE(terencetoo @ Jul 7 2009, 12:31 AM) wow i just receive SingTel email....that require me to pre-order via their website.... iFlexi Lite $39 500MB: iPhone 3G 8GB @ $398 iPhone 3GS 16GB @ $548 iPhone 3GS 32GB @ $678 it seems pretty exp though...im checking their outright... Singtel didn't offer any outright / prepaid packages for the previous model and right now, there's no news of it too. But there are dealers selling the previous model outright at their shop. A friend of mine bought one (16GB) few months back at around RM3000. This post has been edited by jonest: Jul 7 2009, 01:48 AM |

@Tink,
According to this site, Straitstimes Singapore New iPhone cheaper excerpt: THE NEW Apple iPhone 3G S, which goes on sale this Friday, will cost less than its predecessor, and those who bought the earlier model will be allowed to trade it in for the new handset. Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel), the handset's exclusive local distributor, on Monday announced that the iPhone 3GS will be given free to those who sign up for its $205 a month mobile plans, while those on its new low-end $39 a month plan will pay $678. Last August, SingTel sold the iPhone 3G for up to $848, and in light of how well it had done - it sold more than 100,000 iPhones - industry observers had expected that it would sell the new model for around the same price. Another piece of good news: SingTel will offer iPhone 3G users who have been its customers for at least six months to upgrade their handsets. They will have to pay between $200 and $738, depending on plan and the handset. Their contract lengths will also be 'reset' to 24 months. SingTel is also cutting the price of the 8GB iPhone 3G to $398, making it 'one of the lowest entry prices for touchscreen smartphones', said SingTel spokesman Chia Boon Chong. While 'there are still a lot of iPhone fans out there' willing to pay any price for the latest Apple offering, Mr Foong King Yew, technology analyst firm Gartner's research director for carrier operations and strategies, said SingTel likely decided to lower prices in response to recession-hit pursestrings. Meanwhile, the upgrade offer is to keep its original iPhone customers happy so they stick with it, rather than giving them a reason to switch to a competitor, something especially important for companies operating in mature, competitive industries like mobile telecommunciations, he said. -------------------- Well, if the price plan is in RM, best giler!!!! @jonest,
The trade-in doesn't seem v worth it. Maxis has something similar too but am not sure if it'll be applicable for the 3GS when it reaches our shores. My take is still that if U have to pay so much $ and sign a plan of 24 months instead of getting it outright, might as well wait for Maxis n get it from Maxis. |

@tink
I do have a similar feeling since I can't sign plan with singtel unless I get it from their dealers in which the price would higher. My friend bought his 16gb 3G @ $1150 @ 2.45 = RM2800. It's cheaper than maxis but I'm sure dealers will take advantage this time. |

I'm not sure which info is the correct one.
I called Singtel Customer Service, she mentioned that $600 is not for terminating your previous contract but to purchase the new iphone with your existing contract running which have another $800 penalty. If it's $600 and terminate the previous contract then maybe i'm good coz if not, it's 800SGD to terminate it. |

@dannywcw,
It's not clear but if it's a trade-in or an upgrade then yes, U probably will need to return the 3G sets. |

Just received email from singtel stated early upgrade fee for those signed during last year august been reduced t0 $300 from previous $600.
Doing the maths now: Choosing the iFlexi Lite, Monthly fee @ $39 iPhone 3GS 16GB @ $548 and $100 discount if upgrade to iFlexi price plan from existing price plan. So $300+$548-$100 = $748 i'll get back the 16GB iPhone but 3GS. and i'll need to dispose my current white 16GB to offset the price im going to pay. wat's u guys think? worth it? How much could I sell my current white 16GB iphone? |

u dont need to return the iphone 3g in order to get the 3gs.. but there's an option to trade in. they will take iphone 3g 16gb at 400$. and 8gb at 300$
