clone pc i'll suggest also..
cause,
branded one:
u cant upgrade urself, if u upgrade urself = TOTALY WARRANTY VOID

clone one:
u can upgrade urself, if u upgrade ur self, other hardware still have warranty = TOTALY WIN!

Errr...from wat i notice in branded PC,they usually dont use stock cooler,my DELL one got a special heatsink, while my compaq one got cooler master fan(I mean CPU cooler)..

If u guys state that branded one is more expensive, after calculating the cost of casing, psu and cooler bla bla,and not to forget on site support, also original windows...they both are the same..just depends on wat kind of service u prefer

dont ever look down at DELL PSU they are really good PSU...i upgraded from a 8800gt to gtx260 without problems with only a Dell 425watt PSU...the service u get from Dell is very good if anything happen within warranty period they will come to your house and fix it for you..no such thing as waiting for RMA for 1 month and u cant use your PC ...most dell machine is very quiet compared to custom PC unless u are planning to spent on good silent fans for your custom PC it wont be near as quiet as OEM PC's IMO....but gaming wise its better to get a custom Pc if u know your stuff

Hmm... budget. Roughly RM1.5K? Just need a good desktop to do programming...surf the net..download movies/drama perhaps?

since dat is ur budget and u just needed to do the things u have stated, i suggest u go for branded pc.... but if ur a gamer, branded pc at dat price usually does not meet sometimes the minimum requirements of games nowadys... if ur intending to play some latest games buy clones... anyways, thats my opinion... the option is in ur hands... all da best buying ur new pc dude.. ciao... thumbup.gif smile.gif

i dont think clone vs branded is right tho... "clone" items could be branded. so it should be DIY vs OEM biggrin.gif

for me, since my school days till now, never personally bought "branded" PC except using those in my office. sweat.gif

TS try so-called clone, u will never regret. wink.gif

when someone asked this question, i don't think he/she is a diy-er.

they probably choosing between buying a SET of branded PC or ready PC from shops

Yup if you need to ask this question then definitely buy from Dell is the best solution.
If buy DIY the RMA will make you cry sweat.gif
So it is not hard to understand why many companies buy "branded" PC to be use in office.

the only advantage in branded PC is its warranty service, but think of desktop components are usually more durable than laptops, it is highly unlikely things will go wrong during the first year of purchase. You can extend the warranty to 3-5 years, but it is not a wise decision for home users.

I think the benefit of better warranty isn't justified by the additional cost imposed.

Sometimes need to take account of time vs money.

You spend a little more (may 100-300) but you get a peace of mind, if something wrong, they will come to fix for you. That's the main reason why office environment always opt for branded, not because they are higher in quality (in fact could be at par or even lower than cloned PC), but the support service is much better.

I think a lot of people experience on cloned PC, when someting wrong, send to the shop, if lucky, the shops with experienced and responsible technician will pin-point the problem and fix it for you quickly. If not (a lof of cases), some will simply say this faulty, tell you to change this, then after changing, problem still existing, then said oh, that one also spoilt, need to change as well.
Somemore if warranty claim one, sometimes can take month or months time.

Don't get me wrong, I am not in favour on which one, just sharing experience.

i think another factor is how long u expect to use ur computer...

if wanna use for long time like 10years..then get the branded ones like dell..

for those that are always changing or upgrading, its better off getting a clone unit as its customisable and they can sell off the obsolete part when they dun wan the parts anymore...
