bought it in february 2009 from all it hypermarket/lowyat plaza. failed 8 hours ago. lost more than 400 GB data. all it hypermarket said that they are going to send it back to seagate and let them replace it with a new one or repair. they only have to change the GREEN card isn't it? it has nothing to do with the disc OR?. the firmware is in the GREEN CARD? and the problem will be solved without any loss of data if seagate MALAYSIA just changes the card, correct?

they're gonna give you a new unit.
your data is lost if you send it to them.
if you want your data back, you better send it in for data recovery service (pricey) then send it in for warranty

Oh no..! 1TB ko jor..?! What "lhongwuh" and "VinluV" said is true. They wont bother repairing, all they do is replace a new drive.

the data recovery service is the one that handle faulty HDD...so warranty will be viod.. since they open the hdd.. the price is tooo expensive..

i think it is not... most shop will give 1 week 1-to-1..but if u send to shop now, it will be the same as u send to the distro since they will send it back to distro before send back to u another new unit...

I bought refurbished Seagate 500gb, then after 2months start having probblem... Last week I quickly get another HD and copied all my stuffs, guess what? The seagate hdd straight away died, Thinking of throwing it away instead of sending it to RMA.

It's foolish to think that the same thing won't happen to you with drives from another manufacturer.

I had a 1 TB WD hard disk go bad on me.

Luckily I didn't lose any data because I was prepared for the possibility and still had some spare capacity in my older hard disks. I sent it in for RMA and bought a second 1 TB disk of the same model from WD. Both, including the replacement hard disk, have been working great for a few months already.

no, as seagate have and sell the most defect hdds.

i use my samsung hdds without any problems. cant say the same thing for wd, hitachi or others...

edit : well hitachi and wd are only an example, anything except seagate wins. samsung is my #1 now sry smile.gif

edit2: btw i never said that same thing won't happen, you say that smile.gif

wkkay is this wht u mean?
there is something call fail rate
for example u got 1% chance to fail your hdd
means u got 99% chance to get a good hdd
so once u used your chance to fail your hdd
that mean the next drive shld having more "surviving chance" icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif
but once u get frm others manufacturer mean u reset your fail rate , thus u still got 1% to fail your drive tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif
juz for fun thumbup.gif thumbup.gif
