Hi,

I got a 16gb Toshiba Transmemory USB drive.

Problem:
Can access data from it directly, can copy to WinXP machine. But cannot copy from machine back to USB drive. Everytime I try to copy, it says: e

Error copying file or folder

Access is denied

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

The disk is not full. Its not in use. There is no protect mechanism on the USB drive.

Does anyone have an idea how to make it work?

Yes, it is my pendrive. I did try to make it a bootable USB to run W7, but did not work. But I can access my pendrive from my W7 computer easily;. Will formatting it work?

You mean can open using Windows 7 32-bit but not 64-bit one? But can open other OS with 64-bit?

I believe it has build-in U3 which protect the content inside from being opened. Try suggestions from iwan_smtk see if it works.

The Win XP 32 bit is the problematic one. Can open, read cannot write.

W7 64 bit can do everything

Format the disk in WinXP and see? I think it may be security credential. And you may not be able to format the disc if this is the case.

Try right click thumbdrive, properties, security, advanced. Add your windows XP credentials inside and try again.

I suppose you've tried copy big (>4GB) and small files and that it makes no difference. If the limitation is just big files, you need to format the drive to NTFS.

Vista and above seem to use restrictive permissions as defaults.
Probably why you didn't have full access in XP.
I've noticed this in certain situations.
