hardware driver availability? tell that to the guys at troubleshooting forum. ease of use is rather subjective since the first OS one uses would most probably be windows since it came with the computer. on the intuitive side, I'd admit KDE4 don't seem to have the accessibility down properly, compared to winexplorer and gnome, though i'm waiting to see moblin's interface for netbook.

Uh well, there 3 reason
1st-to try another os than Windows and OS X
2nd- Not all people are rich and they couldn't afford a Commercial OS(unlike us, who support piracy)
3rd- they sick with the soo called BEST OS in the world(well, if no bug, it will be)

why linux over windows....

its like if u ask "why do u repair ur own car when u have the cash to just send it over the workshop"........
because i like to get my hands dirty, i like to learn how the car works instead of just driving it. im more of a sports guy and i like modifying stuff instead of just keep it at that. rims to go, 2 tone color, in-car media system and a car pc. tongue.gif

linux gives u just that over windows. its like an mpv over a car. u can still bring ur family in it, but u cant stuff more stuff in a car, unlike an mpv.

hehe...

Am testing some old PC with Linux in my company. planning to propose PCs running Linux as internet surfing kiosk in a cost saving/staff benefit project. On top of that, my staff don't need to worry about Licensing/Internal Control/Virus Support & etc.

Test result so far is good, upfront investment is near 0 as these PCs were re-purposed from our old win98. compatible with our existing network, and quite fast. The only thing is that i cant seem to find a script for it to auto Log off after x minutes.

i must say this may however change ppl views
on the gnu/linux as a desktop pc..... good thinkin!

im more towards 'adventurous'.

besides, in my case, learning something that other diploma students did not is kind of advantage don't u think?

i'm taking network security in German-Malaysian Institute (just graduated) and when people ask what did I learn there, i said i learnt networking, network security and Linux. isn't it cool? not many students had the privilege of learning Linux thoroughly during their college though, especially diploma students wink.gif

The reason I use Linux is pretty simple. I can run tons of tools , it allows me to take more control of the hardware and I can tune

I've to thank to great tools such as ath_info that enabled me to flash my Wifi card to be an apple airport card which allowed me to use my AR5006 card in OSX by changing device id and device subvendor id to match Apple's wifi card !

and btw, u can natively use windows software on linux through wine (kinda like an emulator but its not, purely native code) and some windows software seems to run faster on linux then on windows itself. why? because linux isnt bloated.

can u run liunx programs on windows natively? im not talking bout virtualbox or the sorts.....

Linux is also good if you wish to save an old computer. Look at the teeny system reqs Linux uses.. what more if you are using DSLinux. I'm thinking of salvaging some old PC with white casing that's yellowed with age and turning it into usable computers, without getting left behind the OS war..

because easier for my software development ..
can do packaging.. as client is using redhat.

so .. laptop is using centos linux.
can easily compile locally then re-package the (rpm files).
ssh / scp or whatever tools.. that come together with my linux.

can also manage the site easily ..
no need to jump2.. first.. just vpn.. and direct link to there.

can also like the "vim" editor so much..
kinda addicted with the black background of it..

..huh.. long explanation ?

well..that is some of the reason why i stick to linux .. even on my laptop. smile.gif

p/s : got gateway timeout at the first post. doh.gif
