Social Media Marketing (SMM) overtaking SEO? I don't think so because they are used for different reasons. I think SEO can convert better while SMM is more for PR ...branding, customer loyalty, stickiness, etc.

You see, you only start looking for information on a product/service when you have an "intention" to purchase. You google for "xxx prices" or "xxx reviews" for example, and when you find a site that you're comfortable with, you make a purchase.

SEO (and PPC advertising) works because your website is shown to someone who already has an "intention" in purchasing your product/service.

To say that SEO's approach of trying to get a sale outright is old school and that SMM is better, is plain wrong - I'm a living example of that.

Throughout my many years of consulting, practically ALL my clients came to me themselves, through my search engine-optimized website - I've never advertised my service nor done cold-calling or anything like that before.

Whoa, this topic must be recommended for marketing students. I have never seen an easier method to capture groups of targeted individuals for business purpose.

I have a question though. If we were to make a facebook group, is it possible to edit the group name in the future?

I know it is a very basic question but it just popped up and it is best to ask now as I am sleeping very soon.

Building ways that fans of a brand or company can promote it themselves in multiple online social media venues like facebook group, it doesn't effect much compare with google adword or advertising banner at popular web page.

Huh, after spending 2 hours I have finally up to date with most of you here.

I must say vckloong, joanne, omniknight, trosworld and many of you here had given priceless insights on SMM. However, as an author(of my own website of course) who writes on "indifferent thoughts" myself, I must say that nobody can properly explain that Facebook Marketing is the right way in marketing.

This is because the world is perceived differently by different people. I am a huge critic myself, but I am open enough to look at things at different angles to suits my point of view. But I am still only human and what I can perceive is limited by time, thus there are still things which are unacceptable to myself.

However, I try my best to think as positively as possible regarding the Facebook Marketing vckloong is talking about and I must say SMM has its potential when done properly (which vckloong would know better).

Of course it has its pitfalls as well like ignorant members, different targets and so on. But as a marketer, you don't have the time to spend on negative thoughts. If I were your boss, I would like you to produce results as fast as possible. And by that, I mean using any route possible to produce marketing results and what vckloong has been talking about in the past 7 pages is one of them.

Alright that's enough for motivational talks.
Here are the questions,
1. Is it possible to edit the group name in the future?
2. To make a group, is it possible to have geographical target? Like Gardening in Malaysia or Gardening in Damansara Jaya?

I see vckloong you have successfully made quite a few joint ventures to respectable corporations before. So ..
3. Is it true that only 1000 members are required for them to tap into your group of resources? And how do you convince the companies?

As you can see I am not a marketer myself, the same goes to many of us here. So if would be superb if you could say this as simple as possible so that we could understand more.

Let me help out abit since i have my own small little group ^^

1. yes it is possible to change the name of the group, once you change all your members will be notified of the changes
2. i'm still new to this and from what i see there is no automatic way to restrict members into your group, you can choose one of three types of groups

OPEN GROUP - Anyone can join and invite others to join. Anyone can see the group information and content.

CLOSED GROUP - Admins must approve requests for new members to join. Anyone can see the group description, but only members can see the Wall, discussion board, and photos.

SECRET GROUP - The group will not appear in search results or in the profiles of its members. Membership is by invitation only, and only members can see the group information and content.

the third question i also want to know so vckloong~ where are u? rclxms.gif

Woops I found out that I mistyped question 2. Let me rephrase.

2. To make a group, is it better to have geographical target? Like "Gardening in Malaysia" or "Gardening in Damansara Jaya"? Or is it better to just "Gardening Group" ?

I see vckloong you have successfully made quite a few joint ventures to respectable corporations before. So ..

Here you go .... Thanks Trosworld.

Facebook Selection for Business Improvement, which would you choose?

1. FB Group? FB Fan? FB Page?
2. And why?

Let's discuss. I want to start either one, for a business use, but i am not sure which one is more suitable.

Hi Quinn,

If you are a new business, you may want to start FB Group, as the psychology behind an FB Group is that "We are Peers" and that "We are equals" as Group members.

If you are an established business, you may want to start a FB Fan Page. This is because, Fan gives the subconscious connotation of a "Slave Master" relationship. Apart from that, it is also very uncomfortable for a person to join a "Fab Page" rather than a Group.

That's my 2 cents, and hope you guys can give some opinions yeah.

Added on September 16, 2009, 2:04 amFurther to that, I would think that Facebook would be here to stay as the owner is still the main shareholder to guarantee the user experience and technical performance.

yeah.. there was a point in which I wanted to sue the competitor who actually planned the attack to get our Twitter account suspended, but then as I was taught well in church, I moved on and decided to give the ebook for FREE to increase credibility and to prove that particular competitor wrong.

what I learnt in the process is about crisis management.
