Hey Djinn, dont mind if I make a thread dedicated for listing all the vga boxes available and also their qualities in your section? The Gamers Hideout section always keep pushing my topic fast and will soon disappear from their DB. Maybe you would want to make this thread a sticky. smile.gif

Others may post their vga box with few in-game shots too.

Farmer Component VGA Box

-uses component input as a signal
-gives striking color and more sharper details
-component = color & brightness info are kept separate
-RGB = color & brightness info are mixed into one signal
-S-Video = the quality is above RGB but lower than component
-price is a bit expensive but no more than RM250

VGA port is for connecting your vga box thru your pc.
There will be a special cable called VGA cable. Connect that from your graphic card port to the VGA box's "VGA" port, then the monitor cable to VGA box's "Monitor" port.

By this way, you dont need to take out the monitor cable and put to the vga box port every time you want to play PS2. Just use the button on the vga box to switch the signal between vga box and monitor pc. Saves time too.

Phew. I hope my explanation helps Netto. smile.gif

Hmm. Would using these VGA boxes have any detrimental effect on the LCD or CRT monitors?

Ilfr: monitor with component inputs are usually LCDs, and they are bit tad expensive than normal LCDs. The quality is not satisfying too. sad.gif I think Sungei Wang shops would have sell this VGA box. Try asking them. I bought it at Midvalley megamall.

Delirium: I have never experience any weird effects before. So far it's ok for me.

Dont get LCD. Get a flatscreen CRT for better quality.

The first one distort like mad. I tried on 4 monitors... all the same. Guess its not the monitor problems...

Second one is ok.. however, after a few hours.. the left portion of the image began to gone blur.. as in u cant see the wordings properly liao.. sucks......

Third one even worse, theres some serious colour problem.

Haih... i dunno whether LKF product quality control sucks.. or the BIATCH TAKING IN DEFECT STOCK....

Or just im pure bad luck....

Hmm..the VD-Z3 vga box is specifically for Xbox and Gamecube, coz they have the higher resolutions ie 768i, 480i, etc.

PS2, the scph-5xxxxx series should work well with this thing although with some games with progressive scan support. Older PS2s such as mine : scph-39xxxx and others MAY NOT work coz they dont have the progressive scan feature. Maybe I'm wrong. unsure.gif

We await your good news Shreaker. thumbup.gif

Only 3 main modes, 480p,720p and 1080i for consoles, there are no 768i. 480i is your basic TV resolution, 480i means 480 scan lines interlaced. You would want the 480p, which is 480 scan lines progressive. Some NTSC games like Tekken 4 supports 525p which increases the number of scan lines vertically which results in smoother pictures since more lines means less jagginess, up to a certain point.

The magic number to aim for is the 720p, at this resolution, the games look gorgeous. If your TV, or your VGA box+ monitor combo cannot support 720p, go for the next best, 1080i, otherwise stick with your basic 480p.

Older PS2 DOES support progressive scans, even my old SCPH10000 have it. But only the new PS2s supports progressive scan in game display AND DVD movie watching. So if you have older PS2s, dont worry , you can activate progressive modes on them. But also remember that you will have to ACTIVATE progressive modes, they do not come on automatically. They are eithe activated by the Options menu(most new games do this) or in older games(if they support progressive) , press and hold Triangle + Square while your game loads to enable the progressive mode prompt.
