Hi all! Newbie to photography reporting in to the dark side rclxm9.gif After some really long consideration between Nikon D90 and the Canon 40D, finally got my unit today.

Price 4115. D90 kit, Silicon Power 4GB SDHC C6, Kenko UV Filter, bag and lens cleaning kit. (Manage to get a pair of Sandisk Extreme III 4GB SDHC at a good price too thumbup.gif )

Ok this was taken by my PnS. So bear with the quality.

Will need lots of guidance from the sifus here, notworthy.gif

guys, planning to buy the 70-200 f2.8 vr....should i wait for the new one or just buy the current version?
*

waaaa...current dream lens laa..adoii.. wanna get this one lar..

You wanna buy 2nd or new? If you wanna buy a new one I strongly suggest that you wait for the upcoming 70-200VRii which is supposed to be better, physically shorter but heavier. This lens is coming very soon.

Later if it's out you can decide if it's worth the extra money to get the VRii or maybe stick to the current VR version. Prices of the VR version might also get lower because the VRii is the direct replacement version of VR. Still available in production is AFD 80-200 2.8 which doesnt have any replacement model yet.

AFS 70200 VRii > AFS 70200 VR > AFS 80200

quote from kenrockwell:

"Even after November 2009 when this new 70-200mm VR II hits the streets, it is unlikely that it will ever be able to find one in stock. Unlike amateur lenses, Nikon's top pro lenses are chronically out of stock, so order yours and wait. They always come in, just don't whine if it's not in stock (or goes out of stock) right before a big job. Nikon has a hard time keeping up with the demand for these complex lenses.

If you do want one, order it today, because the people who get theirs in November are the people who ordered in in July when it came out. People who wait until November will have to wait even longer until the people who ordered first get theirs. "

I trust sandisk and you do fine with the 20mb/s card.. a nikon D90 wouldn't really benefit from 30mb/s card..

A D300 or Canon 40D or other dslrs with higher fps would benefit from a high speed card. I would also recommend a 4GB Class 6 Transcend. thumbup.gif

A kingston card is overrated... a class 6 kingston compared with a class 6 transcend (about the same price - around Rm50) ..the kingston has a much lower transfer speed.. it's overrated. I'd buy a few Class6 4gb transcends with the price of only one 20/30 mb/s sandisk. same lifetime warranty.

if you want serious speed, imo a d90 would not really suffice even with a 30mb/s card. d300 upwards is the answer.

u can take raw photos with any sd card actually.. the main reason for a high speed sd card is to take burst shots in raw format..
