you wont go wrong with Tokina AT-X 11-16mm F2.8 PRO DX.

It's sharp, wide and has constant aperture.

QUOTE(pleasuresaurus @ Jul 3 2009, 10:59 AM)
From reviews and input from users, the tokina is sharpest, followed closely by sigma and last (and least) of all the tamron. Not sure bout the nikkor, too new for me, but 1st party means sure sempoi one la.

Based on my personal benchmarking, the Siggy is a good bet. U get good range and good optics for a lil under RM2k. At UWA the 1mm of difference between the siggy and the tokky translates into a significant difference in viewing angle.

Nikkor is new and expensive ... around 3k

Sigma and Tokina ... both price is about the same around 2k

Sigma is f3.5 and Tokina is f2.8 ... tough decision ... i will go to camera shop to try this two lens on my D90 smile.gif ... can't wait to get a UWA lens laugh.gif

My first UWA was the Sigma 10-20mm. It is a lens that produces contrasty photos but it's not sharp and has very bad distortion. Even at higher aperture like f/7.1 or f/11 it's not sharp. Also, it has a bad case of chromatic aberration. I'd advise people to stay away from the Sigma. Some people may opt for it because of the distortion.

My next UWA was the Tokina 12-24mm f/4 which was a really nice lens. It's sharp and the constant aperture is really useful. Then came along the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 which tops them all.

Well, it's definitely a wide lens great for landscapes. In my flickr photostream, I had my 11-16mm on most of the time in NY. Must warn you though, UWA doesn't work well with people at the widest end.

I can only think that you should use a diffused flash via CLS to make sure there are no blown details on the meat. It's best if you can get an diffused umbrella setup. This will help produce better color than without flash. Next is make sure you save a raw file and post process to you/client liking.

i have budget constraint ... if i were to choose wide angle lens, which one is better option?  icon_question.gif

Nikkor AF-S 10-24mm F3.5-4.5G or
Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC HSM or
Tamron SP AF 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II LD (IF) or
Tokina AT-X 11-16mm F2.8 PRO DX
*

Think about Tokina 12-24mm f/4.
