Hello and thank you for visiting my thread,

I'll just get straight on to it. I'm an SPM graduate, and currently unemployed. I planned to take a course in TARC or IACT.

My mother and I live separately, I live with my grandparents. My family have been having problems lately. It's rather complicated and ridiculous.

Recently, I sent her an e-mail with the college choices I stated earlier. (Diploma in Building at TARC, or Diploma in Advertising/Marketing Communications at IACT)

But she told me they were still out of her price range. She's also trying to convince me that "why should I waste my time?" and work straight away. Personally, I'm getting tired of getting all my options rejected.

She has alot of friends who've made it big from the slums. From rags to riches of the sorts, but they never received a college education. I feel myself to be not as lucky. Even my colleagues from my recent part-time job disagree about there being a future without education.

But now since the since even TARC was rejected, I HAVE to at least try to apply to IPTA. It's either that or I work. Ambition-wise; I would want to work in the fields of construction, or follow my father's footsteps in hospitality. But secretly; I've always wanted to study Psychology. Advertising has always been one option.

So, can you guys help me? Is there a internship program for SPM students? Or should I try to apply for IPTA? Or is there a future without higher education?

I think IPTA application was closed..
have you try to apply TARC for psychology?
it is quite affordable..
fees are not the main problem, because you can loan from ptptn with the terms that you need to get at least 5 credits in your SPM..
If you really in a hard time, why dont you take STPM over there?
Its the cheapest pre-U compare to A Levels,etc..

You are still young, but that doesn't mean that you have much time to spend compare with other.

Do what you suppose to do now, time is running fast. Study and get a degree or professional cert, this is what you need to do now to build your future. If you can foresee how the person you would be in 3 year may be 5 years, you need to plan grow yourself now. If you give up yourself, you probably will remain what you have now. But TIME do not wait for you. There will be no chance for you to go back to school, while most of your friend already graduate with degree or master.

Looking at our economic today, the next 5 years, if you do not have at least a Degree cert, it would be even though for you. Then it would be too late for you to regret. You have to move on and struggle for the rest for your life.

Just my 2 cents. Plan for your future, if you give up now, you probably give up the rest of your life.

if per your topic question:
Answer: Not automatically doomed, but u'll have to work extra hard to get to where u wan. You will also feel jealous and perhaps unfair, when u be in such situations:
u work for 4~5 years in a company, to just move up a post or two. Then comes this fresh grad, and he becomes your manager. Efforts of what took u years to be where u are, this dude climbs on top of you :/

if to your question in thread:
For SPM, u can only apply diploma courses in IPTA. unfortunately as Jac said, application has been closed.

An option for u here is (my humble opinion); u can always work and study part time. A few of my friends did that. One was working as sales executive while studying law part-time. But bear in mind this will be very taxing. But with effort and will power, nothing is impossible smile.gif

Another friend of my gf, started working after SPM. Now (at age of 23), the last time we saw her, she was working at an MNC, with a rather high post (forgot wat post, but bottomline is, she's earning like 5~6k per month)

So all's not dead and gone my dear friend smile.gif hope is there if u have a will

Thanks so much for your views and suggestions concerning my situation.

I want to ask another question though...

I'm considering working full-time to save up before I head to college, so I'm talking about heading to next year's intake.

So, will PTPTN still consider sponsoring my education even if I'm holding a 2008 SPM graduate slip to enter college in 2010?

With Education=Faster Growth to Point A
Without Education=Slower Growth to Point A

In conclusion you still reach the same place, just that you take more time.
Many people succeeded without college or anything. But they went through a lot.

If tarc is out of their price range...then i dont know where else you can go...tarc offers the cheapest price found in the market....and dont forget about ptptn loan...

my roommate took diploma in building in ktar too and he told me that there was one time a chinese newspaper wrote an article saying that ktar's diploma in building isnt recognized by much people outside (thats what i heard) so if you really want to venture into this field and in ktar, i suggest you think of quantity surveying.

actually with ptptn loan...there's no saying that you still cant afford studying ktar/utar
this is because for e.g,
-a diploma course in ktar cost less than rm7k....and ptptn loan gives you 10k...
-a degree course in utar cost around 28k...and ptptn loan up to 40k....

The is NOT true, the diploma in building course has been around for many decades and graduates have been doing well in life. A lot of them end up as big time contractors. Fresh graduates usually do not have much problem getting employed as they are in demand by employers in the building line.
QS ing is a specialised area of building dealing with costs, estimation, tendering, building accounts, is also a good line to be in. QS are required in almost all building projects and many work for contractors.

Going through a 2-year course in KTAR would give your a good headstart in getting a job.

if you're hardworking enough to work part time and dont simply spend your money, your parents wont even need to fork out any money to support you also, you can be totally independent.

look, education doesnt alwas have to be academic. u can make a living off trades/skills... like becoming a plumber/electrician/mechanic/chinese restaurant cook.. these kind of jobs dont require u to go to some kind of uni

in msia every1 so kiasu that they think they must enter a coll/uni or they will eat shiet. that's not the case, go pick up something u like doing that has a good prospect. why not try 'alam' u can be a seafarer (eg marine engineer/captain) without paying a cent n get paid while studying? i guess this is the best choice if u have good academic results n a pure heart to pursuit happiness

thanks 2 balless ppl that always listen to ppl/parents and bow down to social pressure we got so many of these degree factories blooming around. every tom d*** and harry wants to go study, while they cant.

all the best in ur endeavours bro, u have my prayers.. check out the alam thread here ^^
