Y does the CS community seem to be getting smaller and smaller whereas other games such as COD4 and DOTA seem to be steadily getting more and more clans popping up and entering tournaments? and dont say cause cs is being "dominated". every game u play depends on the amount of time and dedication u put into it..DOTA is also being dominated yet there are alot more clans joining and giving a fight...this question has been bugging me...a few sideas of why this game is dying would help determine the problem and probably,hopefully, CS would grow again... thanks!

Well, it would grow, only if people start support ORIGINAL steam CS instead of playing on non-steam servers. For those who tend to play on steam, they'd know what it's like to have scrim and stuff whereas only a handful who plays on non-steam servers know how to scrim on their own 100 ping dedicated server, and obviously, they suck, no offence. Besides, ISP companies in msia should also provide services to create dedicated servers @ LOW COST BUT HIGH QUALITY.

as for me.. i stop playing cs since i start playing cod4. I tried to play cs again after a few months.. but damn, too much differences. I just love cod4 gameplay

forgot to add in.. yeah, there's a lot of factor beside new fps pooping up.. i dun think a lot malaysian buy original steam.. so when such people like me(i do have original cs 1.6 and css) move to another game.. the original server will suffer a little bit of losses lah.

Anyhow, it's gonna take years if cs is really gonna die.. as long as there's players.. there will be sponsors.. but i dunno wut happen if sponsor pull out from sponsoring cs tourney

Well we did offer Dedicated servers for people to play but seems like unless it's non-steam no one wants to play on it. Kinda sad.

hmmm....in 2001 i used to play and there were alot more maps involved and every weekend or every 2 weeks there were tournaments to be played... either in cybercafes or major ones such as WCG and CPL..i feel that the "small-time tournaments" in cyber cafes every other week and the "bigger" pool of maps which consisted of at least 8maps kept people very much into the game..and they're were "house-hold names" such as FMJ, NTBD, PLAM, [E], EDTS, TEEN X, NKAA...these top teams kept to their clan names regardless whether they lost or won..where as now days players keep jumping from one team to another...there's no "loyalty" to the clan anymore and these teams keep changing their clan names every other tourney..thats sad you should be proud of the clan name...but yeah..coming back to it..i think more CC tourneys should be arranged..and more maps included rather then the normal 4..






I've tried COD4 and even though the graphics are good and all i feel its a little slow and there's not much you can do as there is "no money" system as there is in CS and that for me makes it a little boring..

and to answer ur earlier question... CS is old. too old. it's time to give a chance to a new game. also, FPS games are very skill oriented, CS is extremely skill dependent whereas CoD4 isn't so much (it still does just slightly less skill dependent) and DotA is much more focused on strategies and teamwork.

each game has its own advantages and CS has lost out.

Its been a long time i ve been playin CS and I stop playing it the moment i took up COD4. Why? King Kong has already stated the obvious. There really hasn't been any significant change to CS despite the many versions and also the latest CSS. I think the only way to revive the game is for the Valve or any other developers/modders to come out with a totally new CS to compete with the current FPS that are currently coming up. Otherwise, it will slowly but inevitably fade to become a dinosaur of yesteryears.

But i still do enjoy playing it once in awhile. Did ya guys watch CGS pan asia finals? The CS match was quite exciting lol

well...CS is growing...only for CS Source (online).. i keep playing since CS beta 4...until now about to 10 years?? LOL COD4...i get bored when i unlock everything in multiplayer....CSS got alot of mods....but i can say in msia not much player..but SG...Taiwan..HK...China...bunch of them..can meet them too...and currently i'm in HK clan..hehe...interested?? Even fusion.. well.. at least cod4 has something to unlock while cs.. er, buy weapon n shoot. As for me, cod4 is more challenging.. u can run, walk, climb buildings.. a lot of perks to choose to suit ur gamestyle.. well, doesnt mean that everybody should stop playing cs.. this is just an answer to the TS.. people play cs for casual not for gaming.. there are still a lot of cs clans out there, like i said.. it will take sometime for cs to eventually die if the developer do not introduce new gameplay n graphic for cs.

i think it's because the lack of good cafes for cs fans to have friendly scrim. A lot of cafes are not gears setting friendly so it's very troublesome for us to use our own gears when we play. I've stopped cs because of this FMJ CAFE used to be my fav place for friday night lol

why cs dying? because its getting old..do not understand why ppl still play cs1.6 instead of moving on to CS:S or COD4 ...i feel COD4 is much better in terms of gameplay....cs1.6 graphics give me a headache....horibble graphics

well.. cannot compare cs to soccer lor.. even soccer the graphic n gameplay is upgraded every year.. even tough not much hehe.. as for cs, there are a lot of factors.. if u r talking about fps.. u should realize that there are a few fps games that can challenge cs.. perhaps that one of the reason lar.. plus, yeah people seem to play dotard a lot..

There was once a time ppl didnt believe that there was one. which i told my friend.
gave them the installation + website. eventually its worthwhile when ur bored.
Can host a server to play the CS2D too.


hey i really want to see more CS 1.6 rather than waiting ESWC @@ very long.

Well, it will be some time before dota suffer the same fate..but for now.. its all dota ..still ..dota dota dota dota ..i wonder what so fun about it..but..hell i been playing..weekly basis at CC...gosh...

Seriously? I started in Beta 3 and played often enough until 2005 or 6 before I lost interest in the game. I took it up again about 3 years ago then dropped it for CoD4.


You want to know why it's dying?

When was the last time someone in CS came up to me and said, "Eh? Want to play some CS? For fun only la..."

Never.

When was the last time someone is CS came up to me and said, "Don't worry about competitions. That's only if you're interested to go hardcore."

Never.

When was the last time someone in CS came up to me and said, "I think you have potential to play competitively, if you put in some effort and push for it you'll go places."

Never.

With that kind of elitist attitude community, how the hell does anyone expect the game to grow. Seriously. And I know what it's like to play competitively, 12 hours a day every day for 6 months. I threw away 2 years of my life playing the game back in school.

If the people who played CS, spent a little more time encouraging people and supporting, maybe CS wouldn't be bleeding itself out right now. Is there time to repair it? I don't know that's up to the guys who take it seriously. I take CoD4 seriously, it's part of MY life. So i make sure that when i see someone start and score 0-20 i walk up to them and say, "Don't worry, when i started, mine was 0-30." Just a little more effort does wonders. Be helpful and feed them all the basics even if he's not going to amount to anything, because that feeder may feed the game to other people and so on, and that's how a community grows.
