Sifu's out there im a bit confused in overclocking with software utility instead oc the manual way by tweaking in the BIOS.I tried to oc my athlon am2 4000+ to 211MHZ fsb(standard fsb 200MHZ) the system booted up and windows was stable and able to run the system long hours without crashes etc.(stock speed 2.1GHZ,OC @ 2.2GHZ) but when i start to increase the FSB to 212MHZ the system was unable to boot,so i know that i my ram cant take the higher FSB.

But OC using MSI dual core centre i was able to increase my FSB all the way up to 230MHZ (CPU speed @ 2.4GHZ) and windows seems stable and able to run games etc, with manual OC i find that my ram is unable to even boot at 212mhz FSB how is it that MSI dual core centre able to tweak my FSB all the way up to 230MHZ is my FSB really at 230MHZ?I checked using CPU-z and my clock speed is at 2.4GHZ.Im confused sifus hope can give clear explanation regarding this issue icon_question.gif rclxub.gif

with higher FSB, u need 2 increase core voltage as well.
S4PH
that i know but why in Bios i cant go further FSB but using the dual core utility it is possible?
Isadar
I'm not sure but does it have something to do with the POST (Power on Self Test)?

Maybe when you OC in bios it didn't pass this test but if you are in software overclocking then that doesn't matter.
S4PH
could be bro thanks will try it out

Pls post up your full system specs smile.gif

Its called HTT in AMD systems bro, and I find it very strange that your htt refuses to go above 211 in bios. Thats like...nothing these days!!
S4PH
my system specs

AMD Athlon X2 4000+(2.1ghz)
Corsair 1gbx2 (5-5-6-19-2T)
510w Acbel PSU
ATI 4870
MSI Nforce 500 SLI

but if i oc using dual core centre i can push my FSB to 235mhz in bios max 211mhz very strange.

Btw what is HTT noob here hehehe notworthy.gif

Mmm...i think u should change your mobo for higher oc coz MSI is not good in ocing accept the diamond version..lolz..
S4PH
my mobo model is K9N4SLI by MSI,btw is my ram able to push higher speeds coz could my ram is limiting my FSB increase?,but OC through sware is possible why?
chchyong89
maybe in bios ... no matter how high u tweak the vcore, it remain same vcore oso, but in windows using dualcore centre, the vcore setting work..
i am MSI user, that's why i know it..
after i complain to msi, it release another bios and fix this issue on my MSI P35 board..
btw, MSI really weak in OC mer? lucky My MSI can hit any clock i like ^^
S4PH
i guess ur wrong MSI cant hit high clock speed as i just got xms2 DDR800 performance ram and i tried increasing FSB to 230mhz and my system is able to boot, its my standard ram which limits my FSB oc,2 moro mayb wana get new cooling system and wana try whether my Athlon x2 4000+ can hit 3ghz hehehehe.

by the way, wat's ur current temperature? hmm.gif
ktek
software overclocks are right (most of the time)
you cannot go pass 211 because you need to reduce LDT/HTT multiplier to 4x or 3x in BIOS.
this is a common thing for AMD-Nvidia mobo.
i think MSI software change it automatically but in BIOS you have to set it yourself.

wah up till 92c really high huh?,tested my rig can gi max FSB 250,above that canot boot but i haven increase my vcore, at fsb 230 also run 3mark06 when reach GPU test my pc reboot guess my PSU cant handle.
