Nowadays, there are so many brand to choose for washing machine...
e.g. LG, Electrolux, Haier, Bosch, Toshiba
Which brand do you recommend?
Preferably a durable and long lasting fridge... oh yeah, and also affordable...
Lets discuss...

Why can't u ask 2 questions in 1 thread??
The better washing machine is LG with the direct drive mechanism.
For durability, Whirlpool & Zanussi.

This is to allow forumer to zoom in to specific appliances...
imagine a thread contains 10+ appliances, it would take a hell of his/her time to read everything, when he/she only wants to know one appliances only.... save forumer time to read thread

Front loaders save water, you don't need to fill the tub to wash. I think it saves electricity too.

Well if it lowers your water bill, it's cheaper

it might save electricity as well, I think they should require less power to operate since gravity might do half the work already. I'm no engineer, but I suppose if you build some sort of motor to just pull it half way up, inertia and gravity would do the rest of the work.

@wodenus,
Just cause it's cost-saving and efficient, it doesn't mean it's performance is better than that of the front loaders; that's what I mean

Erm not sure, I have had both front and top loaders and honestly prefer front loaders. Seems to last longer and as mentioned above saves water and electricity, although I cannot ascertain by how much... Depends on usage. *shrugs*
Make sure crap doesn't clog up the machine and have someone look at it for maintanence every couple of years and I reckon a washing machine can last for a decade or two

If so susah, wash by hand

Then no electricity costs at all. If electricity tariffs rise sum more may have to consider that...

Front loaders are supposedly to be gentler on clothes (hence clothes last longer)... which is a good thing unless one needs an excuse to buy more clothes.

Depending on whether u want a top-loading or front-loading.
Elba's front loading is quite ok. <- most sales person wouldn't recommend it coz it gives bad commission.
National's top loading is the best <- most sales person would recomment it but later push u to other brand. coz it also gives bad commission.

How about dryer and washer combine? Appreciate if anyone using this type of washing machine can comment and share your experience.

I'm considering whether to get a Dryer/washer combo or a dedicated dryer since I already have a samsung washing machine...
My concern:
1. What kind of clothes can be mixed?
2. How long does it take to do both washing and drying?
3. Does it use a lot electricity?

Not sure on the combo appliances.. But i was inform that dryer alone consume lots of electricity...

Yup, dryers consume a lot of electricity. They are high wattage machines and each drying cycle may take 20-30 mins or more.
Dryers are popular in the West due to cold seasons when you cannot dry outside. Here in Malaysia with so much sunshine I don't see the need for a dryer, unless maybe you live in a condo (but even in condo you can air dry in the yard).

a salesperson at a 'famous' electric store once told me, better buy separate washer and dryer than a combo coz if rosak later then cheaper to fix.

Don;t look at the brand as your first choice. Most are made in Malaysia now, so quality is the same. Get the one with longest warranty and cheapest price.
Ask yourself 2 questions:
1. How often do you wash your clothes?
2. How much clothes do you wash each time(including brother's, sister's, wife's etc)?
From answers above, you will know the size of washing machine to get.
Front loaders are more expensive, usually only higi-end brands like electrolux etc. Usually imported, so quality is better, thus lasts longer. But top loader is more convenient, lighter as many parts are plastic and cheaper. If you're the type that wash clothes everyday, then obviously your washing machine will not last as long as say the fella who only washes once in 3days.
Electricity comsumption and water costs of a washing machine almost negligible considerations but good marketing strategy.

Just want to ask, for front load. I found my current owner one vibrate quite a lot during spin. It is true after sometimes using it.
I looking something much quite. Front load i know many european brands are selling.
And for top load, some of the model also not cheap.
For the capacity, how much is 6kg and 7kg? If let say I want to wash my queen size bedsheet. Which one is capable to do it?

as someone mentioned before in this thread, front load is supposed to be more gentle on your clothes (but it takes longer for a wash), top loader sort of tears your clothes especially when it spins dry.
my sis electrolux front loader also vibrates when spin, i heard from her maybe need replacement on some parts, need to go back to electrolux service centre.. not too sure. moving in together soon will find out later cuz i will share the front loader as well
i also notice front load mostly european brands selling..
top loader as someone points out haha.. are cheaper than front load.
Capacity i not sure liao.. why don't you ask the salesperson, by telling them how many members in your family? i think they will be able to advise base on that info?

I think brands does not matter much(some exceptions). The most important is after sales service - parts replacement, turn around time etc.
Basically front loading machine tends to be a little gentler on the clothing. However it takes a long time to wash the clothes. The load capacity a not too high. After the machine stops, you have to wait a minute or 2 before you can open the door.
Top loaders takes less time to do a wash cycle, can accommodate more clothes, and you can open the door as soon the machine stops spinning.
Don't get those with build in dryer. They get spoiled very fast.
If you can spend more, get those with metal casing(Maytags). They last almost forever.

Install a filter (cheap one will do) at the tap where the water hose is connected to the washer. This is to prevent any mud from getting into the washer / clothes.

As far as i know, you can put aside the brand..
the brand just make you confuse..
for washing machine try look at these aspect:
1) stainless steel drum instead of plastic
2) reliable motor ( u can look at warranty period offered)
3) fiber body instead of metal
4) price..
correct me if i'm wrong..
btw, i using daewoo 7kg..bought at rm6++
so far very satisfied
