myee
how to solve bro...pls help...

You have to remove Vista folders before you install XP directly. There are some security lockups for Vista folders and you have to unlock them using Vista before you install XP.
myee
ATM i still can use the vista oc right know....so how do i need to remove the vista folder bro....
serewen
try to do with full format process ebfore installing the wind xp?
akira de aimbuster
format your hdd before reinstall xp, cause window doesnt allow downgrading.
TristanX
There is a lot of work to do to unlock Vista folders. Use explorer and right click on Windows folder for the properties. Then

Security tab > Advanced > Owner tab > Edit > Other users or groups...

Type everyone and hit check names then click ok then apply. Then right click on Windows folder for the properties again and go to

Security tab > Advanced > Auditing > Add

Type everyone and hit check names then check Full Control and click ok.

Then right click on Windows folder for the properties for again and go

Security tab > Advanced > Permissions > Edit > Add

Type everyone and hit check names then check Full Control and click ok.

Then right click on Windows folder for the properties for the last time and go

Security tab > Edit > Add

Type everyone and hit check names then click ok. Click on full control and you are done with this folder.

Do the same thing for Program Files(don't forget Program Files (x86) if you install x64 edition), Documents and Settings and Users folder.

Edit: Don't do this for fun, it will compromise the security of your Windows
myee
will try when back home....working right know...hope this can be settle tonight...

I never tried installing XP on Vista partition directly but you may have to delete Vista folders if you can't install XP. The files on the Vista folders are newer and it could affect the xp installation. Get or make a bartpe cd and use the file manager to delete them.

The easiest way is to backup your data and format as it is faster.
myee
i oledi trasfer all the data to my current rig right know...BTW what is "bartpe cd"...
TristanX
It's a bootable cd that you can use it for recovery.

Edit: You can ignore the format if you have tons of data that may take a long time to backup. Don't forget to disable the System Restore to get rid of the junk before you install XP.

I know whats wrong with your windows.Original windows XP does not come with SATA driver.Go to your laptop bios and see under advanced option.Disable the SATA option for harddrive and use IDE.If can't find under advanced option, just go around the bios till you find the option to disable SATA drive

There you are done.Guarantee can install Windows XP now

Only vista setup comes with the SATA driver.

I think you need to read the first post.

I don't think it's the SATA issue since you installed XP before Vista.

I know cause I have similar problems before with my newly bought Compaq C700 which comes with FreeDos.Sometimes, you can get through the setup without problem and sometimes it fails
eclectice
It's possible for improper/missing SATA kernel driver which is not provided by Windows XP by default. The SATA driver is provided by chipset manufacturer like Intel Storage Matrix driver.

You can't install this driver after you have finished XP installation. It won't work that way and may cause BSOD. You need to install this SATA kernel driver during XP setup in F6 mode (Driver setup mode). You need to prepare a floppy disk or a thumbdrive with the driver from Drive A: for you to retrieve the driver in Windows XP F6 Setup mode.

Another way to do this without going through the Windows XP Setup F6 mode is by slip-streaming a custom Windows XP setup with the SATA driver.

From what I read, TS tried to install XP on Vista partition without formatting. The Vista folders are locked with it's security features which is why he gets BSOD.

Well fren...I think u should check it 1st whether ur hdd is Ide or sata type..as per previous member advise..
If Sata ur must get the Sata driver 1st..then there is a step to do it..
If IDE type..maybe some of your hardware had problem..
sotplug
My point of view, definitely SATA drivers.
Previously installed drivers in XP or Vista will not work in this DOS installation mode.

You'll need to get the correct SATA preinstall drivers and then
install the driver from floppy by pressing F5 during installation
or slipstream it into your XP installation using something like nLite.

You have to delete those folders before you do a direct install of XP I guess. It's probably XP setup didn't replace the newer files that comes with Vista and couldn't run it properly or you can reformat since you already backup the data.

Personally I don't think it is a sata driver problem, if the windows couldn't found the hdd, the windows will state drive not found.

Windows can still detect a SATA drive even without a proper SATA driver but it assumes the drive in IDE/non-SATA mode (the default HDD detection mode in Windows XP since it could not provide a specific SATA driver.)

are u sure the windows can detect the sata drive by default? I mean for those newest chipset.

REinstalling XP from bios should work just fine.
I installed linux on my pc, got prob, wanted to reinstall xp but couldn't.
Then i tried installation from bios level, and it worked just fine.

Yes, because the PATA standard allows fallback to IDE/non-SATA mode. This fallback or IDE emulation (legacy) mode is detectable in Windows XP.

QUOTE
The standard interface for SATA controllers is Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI), which allows advanced features of SATA such as hot plug and Native Command Queuing (NCQ). If AHCI is not enabled by the motherboard and chipset, SATA controllers typically operate in "IDE emulation" mode which does not allow features of devices to be accessed that are not supported by the ATA/IDE standard. Windows device drivers that are labeled as SATA are usually running in IDE emulation mode unless they explicitly state that they are AHCI. While the drivers included with Windows XP do not support AHCI, AHCI has been implemented by proprietary device drivers.[1] Windows Vista and the current versions of Mac OS X and Linux [1] have native support for AHCI.

QUOTE
Thus, for those owning older mainboards with SATA support an extra step is required while attempting to install Windows XP. Windows XP does not provide drivers for all the SATA controllers, therefore, during the installation procedure, the user must insert a floppy with the drivers that came in the package along with the motherboard.

what are you trying to say here.I say this because I have two identical laptop with FreeDOS and both are factory configured default to run with SATA mode ON.I successfully installed XP in one without problem but the other laptop gave me the BSOD like what TS has and I found out it is because of the SATA MODE

You don't have anything to contribute please don't reply here cause its not helping anyone here
