My bro new laptop is using vista while my old one is XP. When i want to watch movie with a .srt file, the subtitle cannot show. I did some research, some recommended to use Wmp classic to play but i was using WMP classic still not working. So want to ask which software to download so that the movie can show subtitle.
Thanks in advance

Did you rename the subtitle as same as the filename of the movie?

If you did, try another player like VLC, GOM Player or VideoLAN.

this is the another reason why i'm going to change back my vista ultimate to normal xp....

I am using K lite mega codec pack on vista and I can play the subtitle.

seriously i think vista doesnt cause this problem. im using vista ultimate SP1 and subtitle is shown properly without any problems. TS, check whether if ur .srt file is name exactly the same with the video file that u wanna play.

example:
your video file : ABC.avi
your subtitle file : ABC.srt

btw, i think u can actually add the subtitle into the movie or video that you wanna play. if even you add the .srt files into the video, it doesnt appear, then something must be wrong with ur subtitle files (.srt)

don't blame everything on your OS when you yourself do it wrongly :D

what a funny reason doh.gif

i'm using vista since last 1 n half year, never had any problem like this, just like others said, maybe problem with name of the video and subtitle file...

I used to have the same problem. The codecs are installed(have no idea which, but its Vista Codecs, all bundled in together, have no idea what they install laugh.gif). Downloaded a few animes together with the subtitles, but when I play, it doesn't show up eventhough i turn it on in WMP. The filenames are the same.. except for the extension obviously. But then after searching through google, found out have to go into one of the codecs stuff and turn it on.

Start->All Programs->VistaCodecs(or K-Lite codecs or whatever codecs u installed)->..till you find ffdshow(or red icon with ffv inside). Open that up go to Subtitles(on the left side, tick that), make sure its ticked, and then go to Vobsub, and enable it.

There are number of reasons why the subtitle is not showing, for example if one try to play a movie with its corresponding subtitle file on a freshly-installed Windows XP, you still can't get the subtitle to play. Most probably the movie won't even play since no codecs are installed yet.

Speaking of codecs, I think try to install a codec pack for your brother's Vista eg K-Lite Mega Codec Pack smile.gif

I just remembered. Old installers of K-Lite won't work with Vista as it won't install VSFilter (the one that you need for the subs). You need to download a new version of K-lite or CCCP

why does a subtitles problem have to do with an operating system? it's a software dependent features dude.. zzz

read up. Old codec detected that VSFilter is already there thus does not install it. You need to download new codecs. Honestly, it's common sense to know what plugin do what at your PC.
