I just asked a shop in Cheras this evening and was quoted RM1690. If I take with one game bundled, it would be RM1650. Apparently the shop will "absorb" the cost of the game if you just want to take the console only hence the higher price. Not very logical but I guess they have to do it because of Sony Malaysia policy.

I walked across to another shop and they have the SG 80GB Asian Set going for RM1380. I am curious to know the experience of PS3 owner who bought SG PS3 set in terms of the quality of these SG set? Are they any known quality issues that I should be aware of? I am going through the PS3 FAQ thread slowly but would like to get some quick feedback.

I intend to the use the PS3 as my blu-ray player hence I don't need the games. The shop owner claims that they can fix the len problem and at a cheaper rate that Sony Malaysia. I wonder has anyone actually sent their SG PS3 for such repair before (touch wood) and your experiences (good or bad). Any feedbacks is very much appreciated.

Guys... YEN has increased by more than 20% (vs RM) since last month. So they have no choice but to pass the increase to the consumer since THEY CLAIMED their margin is very small.... I remember I wrote this before to tell you guys to quickly order 1 before they increase!!!

PS3 Malaysia set is SonyStyle warranty. If problem occurs under warranty, send to SonyStyle, no need to pay.

If SG set, must send SG if you dont want to pay at shop and have to wait maybe a month to get it back.

But why not just play safe since you already paying so much. U won't know what will happen rite. If u talk about SG 80GB then is the old one where got memory card slot.

Nope. The SG set 80GB CURRENTLY selling is the EXACT same machine as the MY set. The serial number begins with CECHK06, and the only exception is that the warranty needs to be claimed in SG instead of MY.

No, u can't register the SG set under Sony Malaysia. Only MY set can be registered.

Actually the shop did mentioned that if I don't bother with warranty on the SG set, they can do the repair and their repair cost can be cheaper than those offer by Sony Malaysia. I guess that the risk I'll have to take if I go for the SG set just to take advantage of the saving. Until that day come (touch wood), I will never know if this is the case.

I got another offer from another shop selling just the console at RM1580. The extra RM200 will buy me the the warranty and the convenient so I am going with the Malaysian set.

If that can..... i think the SG set will be hot item.

According to the salesperson, Sony often change the free game list. Sometimes 2weeks change one time, sometimes 3weeks one time, not predictable.

For the free 2 game, I choose LBP and Ninja Gaiden (they out of stock, so they will call me again when restock Ninja Gaiden).

When registering warranty at Sony website, the invoice number need to put anything? I only got the resit.

Malaysia PS3 80GB Only in BLACK color...while Singapore PS3 40GB have WHITE , SILVER & BLACK.

For Singapore PS3 , i think its around RM12XX.00...For Malaysia PS3 80GB around RM1899.00 + 2 games ( Sony Style & Sony Centre ).

The Singapore PS3 80GB is around RM14XX actually. However, I strongly recommend buying the Malaysian set if you have the budget. There are a few other things that can break down with your PS3 which the local retailers cannot fix. Mine died on me a couple of weeks ago and it was a power issue. Had the "traffic light of death" situation where it went from green light to orange to red. The technicians here don't have the parts to fix it and they recommend that I send it back to Sg. And that's a major pain to do. On the other hand, if it's the usual lens problem then that's fixable. So think carefully before you buy.

they had service centre at midvalley city @ megamall there...u can send the console by urself to claim the warranty. ( that shop just wanna extra profit only ).

bit expensive...but considered expenses u need from kuantan to kl and back to kuantan again , i think rm1699 very reasonable.

i planing to get PS3 soon, but i wonder why they have 40GB, 80GB & now i hear Alex say got new package with 160GB, as i know the HDD is for storage movie, mp3, photo & demo game, but if i purely just buy PS3 for game only, the 80GB & 160GB serve no purpose, then what for we stiil need to pay expensive price for it? just get the lowest capacity set will do?

To my knowledge, the 160gb is a limited edition set and official release is in Sg, not in Malaysia. So if you're not bothered about hard disk space, go for the 80gb Malaysian set for the warranty.

Most of the games need to be install some files in the HDD. so the games will load faster and not using the disc too much. and with PSN, we can buy and download games from PSN and save it to HDD.
