if ur friend hv a dslr maybe u can take his and shoot some landscape then compare to ur PnS... maybe u can see the different
advantage is more picture details, the pic is even sharper with dslr and u wont get any problems shooting in night scene

In terms of landscape, sometimes PnS can match with DSLR quality.

maybe... but if u view at actual size the image is not very clear...

Yes, that's IF you print it out full size.

How often do you print out above 4R size? Most of the time, they will stay inside your computer/laptop and view it via monitor.

You got to shop around, some shops may be coming out with new promotions for this camera.

You can also check out the prices by LYN forummers too in the garage sales for comparison.

Or if you can wait for PC Fair in December ... sweat.gif

Hey thanks bro..well true la but silver get scratch more easily i think haha...btw the ISO is for what??got high got auto and the optical zoom where should i set it??because i set it more the less i can focus.. icon_question.gif
Redcross
high iso mean in your pic u will have lots of dots ( or we call that noise smile.gif )
low iso means the other way round lor biggrin.gif

usually high iso is meant for night or dark area shots

if u still dun get it try it out at night

ISO speed... is a technology to boost ur sensor to capture a brighter image in a dark scene but side effect is that u could see a lot of noise in ur photos

i dun know how to explain rclxub.gif perhaps u could google for it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_speed
shift2
is 860 wide angle does make a lot diff compare with normal lens?
sinclairZX81
Definitely noticeable difference to capture more in the screen. When the saleperson demo the 860IS with another Canon without wide angle, the difference is obvious.

actually there is no definition of normal lens and normally all compact camera uses 35mm focal length as standard
so here is the comparison between a standard 35mm and a shorter 28mm focal length... both of them taken at the same time and at the same distance from the steering wheel... look how a 28mm wide can capture more image nod.gif

Ya.. this camera don't have aperture sad.gif I also try to find it last time.. My friend just said his panasonic camera have aperture, why my canon IXUS 860 dun have.. Understand that 870 also dun have..not understand why canon don't put in this great function in manual control.

Unfortunately, last week, my LCD also developed a gray dot. Then became more dots. sweat.gif Now there is a very clear line of dots. Going to contact Canon soon to find out what to do.
flubear
ur LCD is failing?

870IS & 860IS doesn't have aperture settings but the new 980IS has it.
I guess a lot of users do not even bother about it thus the function is not really catered for the casual photographers

Just show a pic I've taken with my cam of some model cars.

Basically, aperture, along with duration/timing of the shutter curtain opening, BOTH contribute to a the formation of an exposure. But aperture also affects an important photographic element called "depth of field" (short form "DOF").

A large maximum aperture is a good thing. It allows more light to reach the image sensor, and so allows you to use a faster shutter speed. A faster shutter speed freezes action and negates the effect of camera shake, resulting in pictures that are not blurred.

Another advantage of a large maximum aperture is to provide a shallow depth of field. This allows the background to blur nicely thus isolating your subject (especially effective when taking portraits).

A small minimum aperture is also a good thing. It allows you to use a slow shutter speed on a bright sunny day. A slow shutter speed allows you to depict motion.

Another advantage of a small minimum aperture is to increase the depth-of-field. An increased depth-of-field allows you to take landscape pictures where as much of the picture in the foreground and reaching all the way to the background (usually, 'infinity') is in sharp focus.

Yes, it has the battery indicator. (3 bar)
sinclairZX81
Yep, but even with battery indicator, although full in the morning, can be empty by evening if been snapping non-stop and especially recording movies I noticed drains the battery faster.

Hi I'm really interested in this camera.

Just wondering if any of you know the current market price?
fawnie
Thanks Kent n Sinclair for your feedback. I m using d powershot 710is which does not hv batt indicator. Agree, batt life depends on usage n life of batt pack. Using AA batts helps too when run out in between charge.
Looking for a ultracompact cam when d 710is konks n considering this. smile.gif
sinclairZX81
Yep, for your 710is, can keep some AA spare to pop in when needed. But the 860is can't. sweat.gif

Yes I know. I m weighing the pro of the 860is(ultracompact n light) against the con of using proprietary batt.
Even tho I will not be using AA batts in 860is which can be carried as spare, at least if it has some kind of batt indicator better then none at all.
I have used ixus izoom b4, once batt out, cam out of action. And a spare proprietary batt is not cheap.

Yes, i have been looking out for 860is whenever i pass cam shops and havent notice any on display. But I didnt ask bcoz not ready to buy just yet.
My 2yrs old 710is still going strong blush.gif

agree... drains a lot of power especially the flash fires frequently mad.gif u will need to buy a spare batt...

Saw a promotion in the papers today in Low Yat Plaza, ground floor 5-7 December, forgot the shop name though. blush.gif

They are selling the Canon 860IS for only RM699 during the promotion period. What's in the package was not stated in the advert, those interested should check it out coz this is a crazy low price. thumbup.gif
