Full Version: CCleaner causes software installation problem

Hi, guys. ^^ I juz started to test latest CCleaner out. & I did twice registry fix. I've heard of many positive reviews about CCleaner, so I didn't suspect it when the prob occurs...

My software installation processes can't install the help files (.chm), & there's a software installation even hangs at half way.

Finally, I figured out it's registry's prob & I restored the registry (luckily I've a backup) & the prob solved.

So, wat's the prob actually? Is CCleaner not good? Any alternatives? Or CCleaner is good but have to be aware of some settings? Maybe there's some settings I should disable to avoid serious issue like this one?

Guys, plz comment & give me some advice. Thank u. ^^

I have been using CCleaner for years and so far each update have caused no problem with other software. I'm so confident with this product that I don't even make a registry backup all the time.

Perhaps you can enlighten us on what software you were having problem with? Is it a stable release or beta version?

Almost every software I installed after the registry fix had the prob of installing .chm help files. They're stable ver... While I had a serious prob of installing Cabal Online. It goes very slowly at the middle of the installation & causes the whole pc near to hang. I believe that Cabal's program might has some prob itself also, so it goes this serious. However, it at least can be installed before that even though if it has prob. It all went to normal after restoring the backup registry.

I am using CCleaner since 2005 (version 1.19) no problem at all.....for registry cleaneing I just using Registry First Aid.

Ya, I've heard a lot of positive reviews. But still I'm having this prob. Why is it so?
apO?
Last year I also used CCleaner to cleanup my registry and delete unwanted files.after doing those two,I also encounter some problem with my files and software.worse, some games that I installed cannot run after I used CCleaner.after that,I quit using CCleaner.maybe you can use TuneUp 2007 to clean your registry.I encounter no problems so far when using TuneUp in my system.

Just my two cents.. smile.gif

Perhaps you can try posting your problem in CCleaner's forum: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showforum=4

Maybe the programmers of CCleaner or even other users will be able to help you.

I've never been (mis)forunate enough to have problem with CCleaner, though.

SCC, do you have problem with Windows like random errors or trouble shutting down, etc? Maybe one of the important Windows file or registry have been deleted (also assuming ur PC is clean from virus or other nasty stuff)

Ya, most probably since the restoration of the backup registry works. Juz that didn't expect CCleaner to give such prob.

Lol! Yaya. Better get one like NOD32. Hmm... Guess even it does, the installation shouldn't be unable to install .chm files bah. The file installed on pc doesn't need to has a file association 1st.

^^" Well, I dun specifically clean the help files & I guess registry fix won't clean that thing. I juz select all the thing in the registry section. I guess that's wat ppl usually do, right?

Looks like it got mixed review. I guess this kind of software should be use occasionally only.

I've tried almost every cleaner and none of them is error proof. Just backup your registry before you use any of these software, especially when you are using XP SP3 or Vista.

Yeap, so far CCleaner keeps my pc's response crisp and quick. I feel that the software that you are having problems with is not tackled by the programmers of CCleaner... Maybe do a selective fix when it comes to fixing registry issues. The list may be long but avoiding the problem should be worth it... Mine has no probs whatsoever since I first started using until the latest version today. icon_rolleyes.gif
