1st of all, welcome to tis JPhone mania...
jz answer watevr i know...
1) jphones are hard to find in shops but in LYN, anything is possible lol... some forumers like a forumer nickname vodafone in garage sale bring in jphones from overseas(i dunno where exactly is but i believe is directly from Japan)
and dun expect to buy cheap for latest model lor...F905i new set should be around RM1600~1650(note tat it is only phone and battery), charger(RM80), bypass sim(RM130~200)
2)in terms of getting d network, no need do any setting(as far as i know..), jz get d suitable bypass sim with ur sim card attached, put in ur beloved jphone, and voila...unlock already~lol
but for Docomo models, users might experience "CPR" problem, as u refer from previous post or even in Jphone discussion v8.
and 1 more problem, some functions like mms, GPRS, 3G, GPS, 1-seg, etc cant be used oso.
F905i looks really good...i oso kena poison for tis model. but further info need tiffneedle(F905i user) and vodafone(JPhone expert) to explain.
AND want to promote...wanna try my SO905iCS? huhu...i wanna sell...

Your explanation is good already.

vodafone: just wondering, do you know if all chinese/european 903sh are all CID24/49? none are CID73?
my friend was viewing ebay and showed me a 100usd 903sh so yeah I think I might have found my replacement motherboard for my 903sh hoping its japanese and not a euro 2005
I'm not really sure but in HK, SMV do release CID73 version before if I'm not mistaken. You can identify it by the IMEI or Manufacture date unless the phone's firmware upgraded or sent back to service before.
Look for IMEI number before 358141/00/100000/0 (Note that it is before that number sequence)
IMEI with number 354721/00/XXXXXX/X would be quite safe.
Manufacture date is on or before December 2005 (For December one, must see along with the IMEI)

It's been 2 days, and cpr wasn't needed. I am shocked.
Yesterday when i was at midvalley's parking area; the chinese characters appeared, and i forgot to bring my cpr phone. I was pissed.
Later when i walked around in midvalley, my phone's signal appeared to be stable again. omg? i was seriously shocked. CPR wasn't needed!
Then walk somemore, chinese characters appeared. Then walk again, signal full O_O
Oh yeah, whenever the chinese characters appeared, i checked my friend's phone-maxis line. His phone appeared to have no signal too. But when my signal was ok; so was his.

Megamall tends to have several places with no signal at all so your experience is normal one.
