Used rebel's haven modded bios ver612. I never had to clear since I've used it.

I'm closing in on why phenom clocks up terrible.
At first I thought it has nothing to do with the SB600 mobo of mine.

Seems like it has everything(well nearly...) to do with the southbridge.
When my phenom clocks up to 240HTT, my 9600GT starts to crap out when running stability tests.
Previously fine when i'm at 220~230HTT. When pushing up HTT, PCI clock gets bumped up too??
Well I have no way to adjust the PCI clock or lock it at the bios...

Hitting 250HTT, internet explorer starts to go turbo mode, audio is out of synch.
Its as if when I bump up the HTT, the southbrigde bumps every other clock up, causing everything
to be unstable. If I were to leave my HTT on 200, suddenly my 9600GT can overclock higher than usual.

When(or if) SB750 or a fixed SB comes out, i think we all phenom owner's (B2, B3) should have no problem
running phenom up to 2.8 ~ 3ghz on stock volts by upping the HTT. Else we'll have to go the black edition way..

Anyone knows more? I may be wrong though.

yea, firstly is hot flash as bro ah_khoo said, i think bro digswell pro in this smile.gif
secondly is using bootable diskette, if your mobo support usb can use usb, i i just tried with diskette before, it work as long as ur board still boot up but without bios, it will only boot diskette and u can flash in this condition smile.gif
basically as the condition said by bro -pws-, it can easily rescue by diskette flash rclxms.gif

Hi. I'm new here, not so good in these overclocking stuff just recently read it on the net.
I recently bought a 9550 and Ga-ma78gm-s2h. I was wondering that someone could give me some basic and straight forward
guide to overclock my PC. I kinda regret not taking e8400 as per recommend by the shop.
cyloh
Welcome to the phenom team....

For starters, go into bios, under the page where you can change CPU settings.. just input 220 instead of the default 200 value.

So your phenom will get bumped up to 2.42ghz instead of 2.2ghz.

You should have no prob with that smile.gif

well, u can always sell 'em off asap once u've set ya heart on intel to prevent losin more ya $$$. remember, d longer u keep 'em, d more they'll depreciate. smile.gif

as for d oc thingy, have no comment since i never got a chance to play w/ any 780 board. but i reckon 2.5~2.6GHz is achievable. biggrin.gif

I'm not a computer savvy. I do not know how to assemble the processor and motherboard.
It's troublesome to change now. So I have increase my speed to 2.4Ghz with the bios after few tries and research.
I can't get 2.5 or 2.6 as you said. Any other advices that anyone can give.

How to Hotflash the bios ....

Mobo A = mobo cannot boot or fail when flashing bios with many reason

Mobo B = mobo with all condition ok can boot

2 mobo A and mobo B must same model mobo (some time different mobo also can but must same model bios chipset , same N/B chipset and same bios program like Award OR AMI ..the program wan to flash the bios) ..hehe i do hotflash the abit NF7S2v2 bios on mobo MSI KN7delta2 (2 mobo use same chipset nForce2 and Award bios )
That Y my 2 rig same model mobo

1)Take out the mobo A bios chipset
2)boot the mobo B to bios ultility ( bios flasher ) until the step wan to flash the bios
3) with AC power on take out the mobo B bios chipset and put the mobo A bios chipset into mobo B ( this step need to do it carefully )
u can use a plastik clip to take out the bios ... is better do outside the casing
4)flash the mobo A bios chipset on mobo B until all is done then restart the pc (if 2 mobo is different model hv to direct shut down the AC power after the bios is edy flash)
5)if the mobo B can boot ...so the bios edy hotflash back
6)take 2 mobo chipset and put it back which mobo the bios belong to

few things you need to take note of when ur overclockin amd quaddy:
  • press control + f1 in bios main page to unlock d advance settings (for gigabyte mobo)
  • try to use lower divider for ya ram 1st to find out d max clock for ya chip, do not oc both at d sametime (else u'll end up wastin more time)
  • keep htt link around 1800~2000
  • keep nb frequency higher than htt link value
  • up few notches of vNB if ur runnin ya ram w/ higher divider like 800/1066
that's all i can think of, d rest i'll leave it to bro cyloh who's much better in overclockin quaddy atm... wink.gif

This over clocking is very exciting! I have a few question.
* How far do you recommend to add the voltage for the processor, ram and NB.
* How do i determine the speed and divider or my ram?
I'm afraid to screw this up. I was unable to boot my PC just now.

bear the risk, as who knows, sometimes u will be a skywalker... travel for 100miles for the sake of OCing! haha...

for newbie, would recommend u to read the basic guide in overclocking... though maybe i know a bit bout OC, its better to ask Quaddie OCer here.. one more thing, put ur hardware in ur signature, it will help..

for vcore, try to add one notch at a time, same with vNB. if ur not stressin ya ram much (by usin lower divider) there's no need for u to bump d vdimm. 1.85~1.9v should be sufficient enuf... wink.gif

try to clear cmos to boot ya pc again, if failed to boot mean excessive oc is done... smile.gif

btw, failed to boot is normal as long as u didn't smell anything burn... laugh.gif
