If you plan to have a good all round lens , go for 18-135 as this lens cover you from Wide angle to Mid range telephoto.
I personally doesn't like telephoto most of the time , the picture will not be tack sharp unless have the moolah for 70-200mm f2.8.
Basically , go for 18-135 or the D90 kit lens as it comes with VR features.

I second the 18-105mm with Vr.

Yes , you can mount any lens into D80 provided that the Lens mounting is Nikon mounting.
But one thing you must know , AIS lens couldn't meter with D80 which means all the shots taken must use in Manual mode.

d80 will accept almost all lens except those intruding into the focal panel area and also, some functions on old lens might not work on d80 like manual aperture ring. Currently using 28 - 70D lens from my old slr.

28-70mm f2.8D ?
Anyway just to share a short story here.
As I'm going to upgrade sooner or later , I posted a post in a thread saying that I'm letting go. Here comes a buyer , ask me on whether the lcd has minor or many light scratches and this and that , to cut that short , the offer price is at 1k and if I agree , I need to wait until next month for his salary.
Come on I thought to myself , 1k is not a big amount.
Why would I even bother this kind of bugger at first ?
They really think everything that's used should have half price from the original price.
BTW , this story is not for the first 4 pmers who Pm me and He's using a D40x btw.
I dont want to disclose anymore but if you would like to know for sure I could tell you.

Added on November 20, 2008, 8:34 pmJust goggle about the 28-70mm and I found that yours might be the 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 edition.

Anyway , I have 28-80mm from the F55 days back aswell.

Off-topic : For sure I'm letting go lower than a new unit , why dont you offer me instead ? You might able to save up from here and get a lens with the same price you bought a new unit.
I'm lucky I choose D80 and dint fall into the white camp.

F-- refers to the lens is not detected by the body.
It could be the lens is loosen at the mount there , try turn the lens mount in either way , it'll solve it.

Whatever you do GET the Nikon 18-105Vr lens, it has Vr.
I really wouldnt get the 18-200mm Tamron or Sigma, these lenses produce Bad Colours!
You wouldnt need the extra zoom anyways as these lenses dont have Vr.
Get a D80 Body only and a Nikon 18-105Vr..and you are good to go.
Btw: You could get a used/new Nikon for Rm900.00..as this lens is offloaded when buyers get it with their D90.
But do check this lens for sharpness etc...

Hi all,
Just wanna ask you guyz sumthing.
I have a D80 with a SB-600 speedlight.
And I would like to use the SB-600 off the camera.
I tried some settings and finally I manage to do it.
But with both build in flash and SB-600 fired together.
Is it possible for me to just fire SB-600 speedlight only and the build in flash does not fire?
Thank you.

You must use the pop up flash to trigger Nikon CLS flashes wirelessly. If you don't want to use pop up flash, the other alternative would be to use the
SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander Unit that sits in the hot shoe.
