Hi guys...

Let's discuss concerning our eyes.

1st question I would like to ask.

I went to the eye specialist, he said my right eye power is 75 while my left is 50. Should I wear a glass? Will my eyes get worse if I don't wear a glass? Anyone, care to explain?

Haha thanks for backing me up. Anyway, surely the eye specialist will ask me to wear glasses coz he also sells spectacles. I just want a more scientific answer. Maybe there are people who are more expert here? Anyone?

IIRC, eye power is genetic in nature, so whether you wear glasses or not shouldn't contribute to further deepening of the power. However, you might experience eye strain and tiredness if you don't. Up to you whether that is acceptable.

It is the right thing to do to seek 2nd or 3rd opinion in any professional services. I brought by father to 1st eye specialist and she insisted that my father has to undergo an eyes lash correction surgery before performing the cataract surgery. Then I seek for a 2nd opinion and the Dr performed the cataract surgery and said the eye lash correction surgery is not necessary.

i dun know if this off-topic or not.but i think the best place to ask.I gt a problem which my eyes keep blinking all the time(both eyes).I dun know how this happen, but i think this is becoz i always infro nt of the comp all the time.Anyone knows whats wrong with my eyes?Anyways to cure it?thanks cry.gif

How I wish my eye power is as low as yours. sad.gif

IMHO, when you wanna see far object, wear your specs. During normal time, you no need to wear it. You have to remember that you cannot strain your eyes to look something clearly. It can only deepen your eye power.

An offtopic question, do you guyz think that science students are prone to get myopia than the others?

if no visual complain or symptom, then its ok to leave it alone. just make sure u dont strain ur eyes. u will need a glasses if u suffer constant blurred vision. thanx

chinese has a saying 'treat the illness when its still in early stage', use glasses for <1.00 can prevent it from getting worse although glasses cant cure ur refractive error.

when u stare at pc for a long time, ur tears layer in front of ur cornea break up and that trigger a blinking reflex to keep ur eye surface moist and provide a clear vision, its just a homeostasis process. when use pc for a long time, practice 20-20-20 rules, after 20min of constant near viewing, look far 20 feet away for 20 seconds. it helps relax ur eye internal muscles.

no need for a long time, just a short break, 1 min is good enuf to relax the ciliary muscles after spending long time looking at near object or computer. sleep is good but it wont do u any good if u continue to look at pc for a long time without taking break. rolleyes.gif

i think u can still save your eyesight. u should read up on doing eye exercises. if you're too lazy, those pin-hole sunglasses might work too.

My father had his eyes checked this morning. The doctor said my father's left eye was infected by cataract. My father is 76 years old. However my brother, 36 year-old also has cataract.

I want to ask some questions about cataract:
1. Can it be inheritable?
2. How much is the normal fee to do the surgery?
3. Will it infect again ?
4. How long does it for the surgery?
5. Any side effects after the surgery?
Monya Meow Meow
I think if your eyesight is within 100 then no need to wear specs.
Time to eat more carrots and take care of that eye of yours tongue.gif
The last time I checked, my left eye was 0.5 and right eye was 1.0 hmm.gif

cataract is not an "infection". its more like a degeneration of the lens inside our eyes. the older we get, the higher chances of getting it. For young people who has such disease, its usually due to injury/trauma to the eye (like me), or too much exposure to UV ray. When a cataract is cured in an eye, it will never happen again.

what is your brothers profession? maybe he has slight accident in his job that traumatise his eye many years ago , causing the cataract now (formation of catact is very gradual).

surgery usually takes about 20 min. I did my surgery (one eye) at a cost of $4500

Wow !
I didn't know that once a cataract has been cured, it will never occur again smile.gif
yhpplqq
The cost is depend which type of lens u want....Normally after the surgery, the person may not have short sighted, but he may having long sighted!
Now got the latest lens, better ask detail information frm your Dr.

Thanks for your explain. My brother job has high chance to expose to UV and for that, I think it's the reason to get cataract.
What! The surgery fee is so expensive. I heard people said it was around 2k only for one eye.

I found out the price varies like crazy. The cheap ones like 2k for cataract surgery are the ones who aim for volume surgery like factory processing. They also use cheap third world consumables from China and India. Also cheap lens.

Some really expensive ones in PJ and KL are like that, plain over priced.

Only way to know what you are getting boils down to Dr. patient relationship. Trust.

I had checked. The cataract surgery in government hospital only required RM400+. My father still prefer to have it in the private hospital with the cost around RM2k+.
