hi, i was told by my seller than if i upgrade my ps3..i cant play any games? unless i update my firmware through games..is it true?

erm erm..i bought my ps3 last week..the guy i buy frm..tell me not to update my manual through the system update..cause if i do that..my ps3 wont be able to run any game..he told me if i want to update my firmware..i have to update it wen i insert the game and the "update firmware" thing pop out..

thats really odd... i haven't had any issues upgrading my PS3 manually through the system update.

yes, so new games require updating your PS3 firmware....but what is the problem? Updating firmware is good for your PS3.

i noe updatin is good..but then..the shop i buy frm rite..he told me never use the system update >_<..oni update the ps3 firm ware through itz game..i duno why he say tat lo..but then so many ppl juz directly update it through system update no prob..tatz why im a lil worry.

Dont worry, just update the latest firmware direct from your PS3.

Ur seller is misinformed unfortunately..just update using thumb drive or by internet..wont harm ur ps3 for sure..no such problems like this reported before.

well if somehow the firmware update file gets corrupted as you download there might be a chance of the update going wrong.

The shopkeeper must've meant the 2.40 firmware where updating thru the system update is very risky. To be safe, download it to your computer, put it into a portable drive/flash/etc. and use the update from media storage option.
