Production

Writers Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon have confirmed to Dark Horizons that they are writing a sequel to their hit Fox film, which was earlier tentatively titled Another Night at the Museum. The writers, who created Reno 911!, said that "there'll be existing characters and plenty of new ones."

20th Century Fox guesses that the sequel, now titled Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, will come out on Memorial Day on May 22, 2009. Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, and d*** Van Dyke will return for the sequel, with Shawn Levy back in the director's chair, and it will be the first major Hollywood feature to be filmed at the Smithsonian in Washington DC. It is largely being filmed in Vancouver. Due to the nature of the complex story, more historical figures are expected to be involved, with Amelia Earhart, who will be portrayed by Academy Award nominee Amy Adams. A new villanious Pharaoh will be played by Hank Azaria who confirmed the return of Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais, and Steve Coogan.

The company had been looking for a Winter 2008 release, but due to the writer's strike of 2007, it was delayed to Summer 2009.

The film was confirmed as shooting a scene at the Lincoln Memorial on the night of May 21, 2008. It was also shooting a scene at the American Museum of Natural History in New York on the nights of the eighteenth and twentieth of August, 2008 where a red airplane could be seen parked on Central Park West.

Video: Night At The Museum 2 Has Chemistry

user posted image

Just like any sequel to a gigantic moneymaker, Night at the Museum 2 looks like its going to be bigger, faster and broader than the original. Its obvious that the writers thought the one thing the original was missing was a love interest, because here comes Amy Adams dressed as Amelia Earhart.

Access Hollywood was on the set of Night at the Museum 2 and Ben Stiller verifies that it is, indeed, Much bigger than the first one.” This one takes place inside the Smithsonian, so that means more artifacts, more historical figures and some rockets.

Amy Adams shows up looking breathtakingly adorable. She claims “It’s a new chase in the story, but a lot of the same spirit.” On Ben Stiller, she says, ”We have a nice little chemistry. So our characters are having a lot of fun together.” Stiller seems to agree as he stumbles over his words and calls Adams “loveable.” Watch him get super awkward about Adams in the interview below.

The film is looking like it might be the right kind of bigger/faster and might even be better than the first one. I definitely think that going from Robin Williams to Amy Adams is an upgrade. And, I might just pay to see that onscreen chemistry. I mean, I will pretty much follow Ben Stiller anywhere and I am only one of many, so it is safe to say that this sequel will also be a big fat blockbuster.

Night At The Museum 2 Trailer

The first trailer for Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian has arrived. In the sequel, Ben Stiller transfers along with some of his favorite exhibits to the big leagues at the Smithsonian. Different location, but the trailer makes it look mostly like more of the same. There’s nothing wrong with that, the first one was an affable little family film. More of the same (plus Clint Howard!) just means more family fun.

Watch the first trailer for Night at the Museum 2 where it debuted over at, weirdly, McDonalds (Does this mean Ben Stiller comes with secret sauce?), or watch it below:
