Yeah. Although i dont really enjoy that song (I'm a Megadeth-er), the video was really good quality and had really good angles and lighting. Quite a perfect video if i may say so.
Dead Eye
the intro of the song if nice, until he started singing.. omg.. cowboy metal

Somehow I agree... biggrin.gif

evalshtog

zeroglyph
btw, listening again, that song sounded like "fade to black" in patterns.

slow-->heavy interlude-->slow-->heavy interlude-->solo
fatboythin
Yeah, its kind of like Fade to Black Pt.II. Guess they ran out of ideas huh?
quarantined
hmm...gotta say im not a big fan of the video.

with that damn snare again? no way tongue.gif
nerd
I liked the Metallica video, but the song not so.. a little bit of a mash-up of Fade to Black and One.

last part seemed a little sesat to me, didn't quite fit with the whole song. it was as if they put it there just to avoid it being a soft song..

and James' vocals are too mellow to sing metal anymore..

am a little apprehensive about the album after hearing the tracks that are floating around Youtube.
blacktrix
Hey, at least the snare isn't made out of tin trash cans anymore.

My Apocalypse is more thrasher but i like Cyanide more..
and yeah The Day That Never Comes does resembles Fade to Black and Sanitarium a lot..
Overall from all the tracks that ive heard, i can say that Death Magnetic is far better than St Anger..

wheres spruce guitar music?

Added on September 3, 2008, 1:10 pmwheres spruce guitar music?
Dead Eye
somewhere in shah alam
Everdying
well, no surprises here but death magnetic has been leaked tongue.gif
blacktrix
Not exactly leaked, but a french retailer "accidentally" sold the album 2 weeks in advance.

Which means Warezed on the internet the very next second tongue.gif

but it's nowhere near United Abominations. at least, initial impressions don't seem to suggest so.

man, I had that album on repeat for weeks.

united abominations also wasnt anywhere near rust in peace tongue.gif

i havent been a fan of megadeth since mustaine went mad / sober / reborn / whatever he calls himself now.
nerd
Rust in Peace is like the pre-Black album days for Metallica, will never come back tongue.gif so I'm comparing the future with the future tongue.gif

all the lead guitarists post-Marty were kinda boring, Drover especially IMO. man, I miss the brutal solos on Rust in Peace. Tornado of Souls was my favourite thumbup.gif
afad
yeah, we will never hear the old metallica again, sighhh..
just like nerd said they will never come back,
but somehow i like to hope that there is still chance for them to sound like the old days in the death magnetic, tongue.gif

+1

Poland was great, Marty was amazing. Now we can have high hopes because Chris Broderick is by no means a bad musician/guitarist. At least Dave finally got rid of Drover. Can't wait for the new album. But with Chris in Megadeth now, its going to be a lot harder to learn Megadeth's upcoming songs. Haha.
nerd
yup. they're gonna record their next album soon biggrin.gif

and one thing about Megadeth is that Mustaine's vocals never seem to have changed much over the years, unlike James'. I guess the day James busted his voice box was the day the sound of Metallica changed sad.gif

the riffs of Death Magnetic are by no means shabby, but the vocals.. sighs..
sean392
Wow the video was awesome.
I quite like the ending of the vid. Happy end lol.

overall metallica tries too hard to please the fans...and ends up falling short.
too many riffs, none too memorable.
the first single seems to be the best song, followed by the 1st track 'That Was Just Your Life'.

the whole album clocks in at almost 75 mins...
75 mins of audio torture, knowing metallica can do better...
75 mins of audio torture, where you ears will be begging you to turn it off towards the end...

on a positive note, the album is still better than whatever crap that was the last 2 albums...and will definitely sell more than those...which isnt that hard to do anyway...

the sound? well, its somewhat trashier than the black album...but as good? nope.
it may be justice-like in total duration, but again its nowhere near

did i already mention not many memorable riffs? well, not many crowd singalongs either.

even load had some better songs, even tho they arent exactly styled after classic metallica.
and memorable songs are what sells metallica albums.

gone are the days of 'master master' or 'die m..... die' or 'exit lightttt'..
gone are all the fans hoping for the return of classic metallica...
gone am i...

Woah, relax bro! Put that handful of Valium and bottle of whiskey down slowly.. biggrin.gif
nerd
hmm I just got back from prayers, will give it a listen in awhile.. keeping my expectations low for this one.

Added on September 3, 2008, 10:03 pmI'm only on the second track, and I feel it's overdone.. the songs don't seem to have a direction. all mix and mash riffs here and there.. and too many 'interludes', they get old very fast.

First track (That was just Your Life) was still okay, but the second one (The End of the Line) was quite mediocre.

and James sounds really old in this album. no more grunt coming from him.. I doubt I'll be listening to this too many times.

Added on September 3, 2008, 10:10 pmokay, third track (Broken, Beat and Scarred).. another forgettable one, although it's slightly better than the second IMO.

fourth track (Day That Never Comes).. love the intro, but heavy outro shouldn't have been there. they wanted to make a Fade to Black but it just didn't mesh as well as Fade to Black.

Added on September 3, 2008, 10:24 pmok.. fifth track (All Nightmare Long) is pure torture. especially the last part.

sixth track (Cyanide) is better, but not butter.
blacktrix
Certain parts I agree with Ever, some I don't.

I agree that we might never see or hear a new Metallica album that is worthy to carry even the "Black" legacy, let alone Master of Puppets........ but if Metallica keeps churning out albums like this one, at least they are in the right direction. After their abysmal last few albums, this one is pretty damn good considering. A few tracks like My Apocalypse does recall the Black days or even Justice..... but falls short somewhere at the end.

I agree that there really isn't much catchy riffs and sing-a-longs are far and few, but at least you're not going to hear any "TICK TOCK TICK TOCK TICK TOCK TICK TOCK".........

But I actually LIKE Kirk and Jame's guitar tone on this one. Not too high gain, but not overly crunchy either. Definite step up from even Reload.

The one thing I AM grateful off is that Bob Rock is OFF. Rick Rubin might actually be the best damn thing that ever happened for the band.
Dead Eye
certainly like u mentioned earlier, the drums in this album is better than the previous ALOT

its not the first time.
my friend lost his jcm900 combo before in his studio.
nerd
ok I'm tired of reviewing track-by-track tongue.gif

overall not a shabby effort. Rick Rubin did a good job on this one, considering how screwed up Metallica was.

I still think it's overdone though, too many mix-and-mash all over the place, but it gets better towards the end.

my personal faves: That was just Your Life, The Day that Never Comes, Cyanide, Unforgiven III and The Judas Kiss.

6/10.

oh, sorry to hear about your friend's studio Dead Eye. hopefully the culprit gets caught soon, and fast.

JCM900 isn't exactly Marshall's best =p

Good service mahhhhhh, would you pay 20 bucks for a studio with a MG100 or would you pay 25 bucks for a studio with a JCM?
Heck I'd do it for a Blues Jr.!!! xD

Haha, it still beats the crap out of those MGs at 90% of the studios out there.
