ok guys i need some help here wink.gif

gonna go for my university hostel's band audition in two weeks time.

what kinda songs should I play to convince them to take me in?
should i choose something which displays different kind of skills like including tapping and such,

or play the songs that I'm comfortable with (classic rock and metal)

or learn some mainstream songs? since the band plays mostly for residence activities, i think the songs that they perform are mostly mainstream too.

advices please smile.gif
Everdying
play the songs that other ppl want to hear.
else whos going to hire u if u just wanna shiok sendiri up there?

better hire some girl pole dancers like that tongue.gif
oxalato
which means mainstream stuffs?
cause I just thought that most people who will go for the audition will play mainstream stuffs, so to distinct myself I might as well play something else.

I thought of playing metallica-orion or some incubus stuff:P
and i think this way I can show that technic-wise I can play things other than normal chords and power chords

any suggestions?
Everdying
pop stuff thats technical? u said classic rock right?
why not try some 80s rock stuff like mr big, extreme.
if u can pull it off, mr big's 'addicted to that rush' is damn cool.
blacktrix
How long is the audition? I would go for a combination of a few songs. Start with some big Power Chord stuff, then some technical stuff and then some thing that everyone love.

take a classic or a pop song and make it to a metal version ..

for example ..i will survive , opps i did it again , can't take my eyes of you .etc .etc...

since it is your own remix , you can lay some show-off solos in the middle too ..

do not 100% follow covers , people are going to compare you with the original ..following covers is only for event and pub bands.

i need sum help also ,im using a ltd viper 50 and a kustom 10 watt amp through a digitech metal master.the distortion the pedal brings out is pretty brutal and can be heard when im playing in my room only but when i play wif my band i dont hear any tone .eventhough my volume is loud my other band mates guitars just clouds mine .when i play, its just chugs out of the amp .but you can hear everything alright without the pedal.how am i going to get that brutal distortion the pedal offers and can still remain the tone and sound during playing with my band.is it my amp?hope sumone gets what i mean
blacktrix
You'll need a bigger watt amp if you're playing in a band. 10w is not enough when playing with a drummer.

evalshtog
so if i have a higher watt amp i will have brutal distortion that the pedal brings out clear. loud. and clean?tx
blacktrix
Well, you might need to play with the EQ as well....... lay off the Highs and Bass, and roll up the Mids a bit.

What sounds good when you play solo also sounds alot different when playing with a group.
evalshtog
ok tx

play songs people wanna hear.
my advice is do a medley, as for the music part, play with the arrangements, chords, etc.
then add a solo in if you can pull it off.
don8ld
yea guys sorry agn* some lp question

which lp brandd sshhud i get and upgrradee it?
blacktrix
You have the money........ go for a Gibson Les Paul Custom.
don8ld
pls guys why everytime u think im so rich and stuff
SkylineFreak
Hey, not many people in the forum has a JEM and a PGM3 and an ESP KH-2. Obviously, you're rich.
evalshtog
geta prophecy lp ex and throw in an ofr.
blacktrix
The problem with the prophesy's trem, it's not claw routed at the back..... means you can push down, but you can't pull up.
evalshtog
oh
IpohBoY
Did anyone watch Jimmy Page with Leona Lewis during the closing ceremony yesterday? He really looks like pak lah...ahaha
oxalato
haha, did he played it live you guess?
blacktrix
Nah, that was a much better guitar player, but even uglier than uncle jimmy, backstage playing......

And then they discovered it was Keith Richards.

Not as bad as flat tops, you actually have a little pull up space, but..... IT WILL DIG INTO THE TOP
ouch =/

the problem with the prophecy LP and SG is that they dont have a OFR tongue.gif

for the futura, if its built with the trad epi/gibson set neck angle...the OFR will be higher so u can pull up.

this is on my SG, the routing is just typical fender style.

Guys, when u r doing a fast solo, do you use both upstroke and downstroke alternatively or u only stick to either one? Cz i have problem catching up with Fade to black intro where there is a fast part there
blacktrix
Combination of alternate picking or economic picking is normally my ticket out.
IpohBoY
Thanks for the suggestion. It's really hard to find jamming kakis at Cyberjaya here.
ameerfirdaus
alternate picking and economy picking i suppose too.
hammett did attack the string hard when picking at that part you mention.

if it is me, i will try the part at slow tempo first and fasten it up later on.
and then when i got the tempo will try to variate my attack on string.
then practice with strap on.
then with face expression on (imagine that O on your mouth).
that is if it is me. XD

come to bangi, not that far.
IpohBoY
I can do that part at kinda slow pace. But when i play on the track, at the fast pace, haha..everything gets screwed up. Anyway, thanks for your advice. Really appreciate it

yea im having the same problem but its on the master of puppets riff.i think hetfield does only donwstrokes but it gets really tiring .how do i do it? sad.gif
blacktrix
YouTube can't do justice to the sound quality. Will TRY to make a recording via my Sennheiser mic and going through the UX2 as a DI box and then post up a Wav or MP3 of that.

If I have time, will record samples of the JCM2000 with the Wylde Overdrive too.

Agree, in fact (maybe I am too noob) when there is this very fast palm muting, my hand gets very tired and very hard to keep going.
SweetTooth
i use alternate picking and cheat with a bit of economy picking but for pedal note riffs i usually play it all downstrokes to keep an even tone. there are exceptions of course

blacktrix, ur guitar has been setup by js music right? is it recommended?
any recommend other than tham?

my bro might go to kl this weekend, and he doesnt know tham's place(nor do i:p).

Practice.Only way to do it.Try to practice with a metronome too,it helps a lot.
