Everybody will have their favorites (Mine is Dunlop acoustics)...... I used to use Elixirs, but find them 'meh'. Sure, it lasts long..... but are they really worth it at RM50 bucks a pack? Tone is pretty good, but I personally prefer the Dunlops. I find the coatings a bit too waxy for my taste..... AGAIN....... this is MY preference....... what seems crap to some, might be bliss to others.
i see, Dunlop, Elixir, Ernie Ball.... all this are expensive strings?
yeah about strings.. whats the diff thicker strings and thinner strings? thanks

so geng mou. will the ml2 sounds very.... 'back'? as in it can't cut thru the mix. the mt2 has this problem no?
the thing is, with the MT-2, most people tends to just scope the mids. this is why it won't cut through. play around with the mids and mid frequency and it'll cut through most things, provided with a good pickup of course. the MT-2 is really versatile provided you know how to set it up(well, gain isn't everything to me).

Hi, I've got a question for anyone who's familiar with the Marshall AVT series.
I tested a Marshall AVT150 1x12 combo in Bentley yesterday (together with a fellow co-conspirator from the Sanctuary ). Surprisingly, when I checked the Marshall website, they don't have a AVT150 1x12 combo listed, only an AVT150 Tribute head (which I also saw in Bentley).
I also saw the AVT Tribute 20w & 100w combos and the AVT Tribute 150w head at Bentley.
Has Marshall discontinued the AVT150 combo? Come to think of it, the other AVTs in Bentley had a little plaque saying "AVT Tribute" (just like in the Marshall website) except for the AVT150...
Thanks in advance...
EDIT: Oooh, and the Marshall logo on the AVT Tributes (20w, 100w, and the 150w head) in Bentley were a bronzey colour whereas the AVT 150 Combo was a pure white...

Hehe... thanks for the prompt reply, Mr Marshalltrix!
Gargh! I shoulda tested the AVT100 Tribute too. Guy there said that it was the same as the AVT150 but with less effects. I tried the AVT Tribute 20w but that really really svcked b@lls...
Eh, yours is the JCM or the JVM? Combo or stack mou?
EDIT: Erm, just wondering if you know what's the difference between JVM and JCM... they're way over my budget but I'm kinda curious...

This makes me when I go jamming with my friends, I cant bend the string to the desired tone and worst, my strings will go rusty in no time. Any polish or liquid thing that I can purchase for this purpose to keep my strings in well condition?

JVM is the latest series. Supposed to be the answer to Mesa's Roadking series. Supposed to handle classic crunch and modern metal crunch. JCM is the more classic Marshall-esque rock tone. But there are so many models of JCM, it's mind boggling. 800, 900, 2000.....
I'm using the JCM2000 TSL (Triple Super Lead) 602 2x12 combo....... whew.... that was a mouthful.
Might be thinking of changing to 6550 Groove Tubes and the speakers to either Celestion Vintage 30s or EVM12L Black Label Speakers...... guess which I'm leaning towards

Seriously, the array of amps that Marshall has is ...
And the price...
Grrrargh! What really annoys me is that I demou-ed EQ's old AVT150 and the gain was bloody killer. Chugga-chugga-chuggga all the way... the "newer" AVT150 in Bentley at max gain was equivalent to like half gain on EQ's old AVT150... And I tested the AVT150 in Bentley through a DKMG with 81/85!

Indeed...Marshall has like the same amount of models that Ibanez has for their guitars..! Shionged mou >< I must admit, I was really surprised the AVT150x you tested in Bentley sounded pretty good and more 'metal' than I expected, and with great solo tones as well! Due to experiences with Marshall AVTs in jamming studios around, I've always associated AVTs wit having 'not tight, purely for soloing' tone.
I got even more surprised when you said EQ's old AVT150 is a high gain monster! Man, why were we so shallow minded before?

Ok, that's it. I've got it all sorted out.
Blacktrix will go inside Bentley and distract the people there on the pretense of testing out drumsets, new amps etc.
Headhunter7 will wait outside the building in the designated getaway-mobile, preferrably something with a lot of trunk space.... how bout we go carjack a Tuareg on the way there?
Then Enteryourusername and whoever else wants a cut and me can go inside and sapu everything.
Valkyrie will be on standby with his K7 to "Blind" anyone who tries to stop us. And then we'll all follow the valkyrie to the getaway-mobile.
Oh yeah, once we sapu everything from the shop, we'll drop off the keys with Everdying.

Err... just another question, Mr Marshalltrix... what in Odin's name are Groove Power tubes? For the power or preamp? EL34 ke, 6L6 ke, AvX7 ke?
EDIT: the 6550 you wanna get are EL34 or 6L6?
EDIT EDIT: Don't worry, I googled Groove Tubes. You're looking at 6L6s right? Does it make the gain more brutal sounding, or does it give more gain or both?

Yes. I need to crank it up to healthy (ie: Ear bleeding, nausea, headaches and rectal trauma) levels to get that wonderful Marshall tone. Thank god I have a semi-isolated music room
So the 40w would be a pretty decent amp to crank.
And 6550 Tubes are known for a fatter sound with more headroom...... which is exactly what I need.
sorry for the bad example but can some1 tell me how to play this? how do i stum fret 10 on the 5th string and fret 12 on the 3rd string?

If you're using a pick, pick the notes on the 5th string and use your other right hand finger (middle, ring or pinky) to pluck the 3rd string.
blacktrix
Nov 21 2008, 07:00 PM
Or mute the 4th string with your free finger.

Everdying
Nov 21 2008, 07:25 PM
the easier and more common way to play that is like a normal power chord using 1st and ring finger... then drop ur 1st finger down so it rests on the 4th string thereby muting it. basically ur 1st finger will be doing all the work...if really want to u can push ur 1st finger slightly higher also so it rests on the side of the 6th string... so u can really strum it from top.

Actually it depends on how what kind of effect you're trying to achieve. If you want the notes on both strings to articulate clearly, then pick the lower string and pluck the higher string.
If you want more of a "chord" sound, then mute the 4th string and strum it like Blacktrix suggested.

Nov 22 2008, 01:08 AM
just play the octaves with your first finger on the root note and pinky on the octave, using your first finger to mute the 4th string... for the notes being on the same fret you can either barre it if you're plucking the notes or change your finger positioning if you're using a pick

Everdying
Nov 22 2008, 10:21 PM
simply follow the major scale. C D E F G A B C
minor is always the 3rd note flat 1/2 step. so Eb
perfect 4th, like the name is the 4th note perfect...kinda like what miley cyrus will be in 2yrs time.
flattened 5th...again like the name says...the 5th note and flat it 1/2 step...like what would happen if rafidah aziz sat on u...
also known as diminished 5th...again kinda like rafidah's brain cells...
good simple example of that flat 5th is the intro to black sabbath's 'black sabbath'...
