I don't know if this deserves are new topic, but given the rampant speculation over iPhone prices I figure I'd post the cheapest rate plans overseas with how much data you get and the outright prices just to give an idea of how much it would cost.
I will update this as new plans/prices are announced. I'm only including the cheapest prices because I can't be stuffed getting every price.
The prices shown are all officially announced, no rumored prices. All prices are converted to AUD as of 29/06/08. Prices do not include any tax that is not included in the advertised price.

Well, there is one more way; you could actually ask the telcos to unlock it for you. But that will surely cost a lot and not all telcos provide such policy...

I don't think telcos will unlock the phone so u can use outside of their network. Thats the reason they lock it in the first place. Unless u have an inside man to do the job. The phone now is just un-subsidized but still locked to the telcos network.

australia's optus is charging $80 as unlocking fees (or topping up at least $80 of credits to unlock), for the prepaid plans for iphones.. i might consider one of those.. still quite ex..

and i assume that once its unlocked, we can use it on other telcos.. which is really fair.. and hopefully we can still claim warranty from apple..QUOTE
Network Locking: Apple iPhone handsets are locked to the Optus network. An $80 fee applies if network locking is removed within the first 6 months from the activation date. Alternatively, if you recharge to the value of $80, no fee applies.

Even Apple authorized reseller also cannot sell iPhone? So, who are the one that are supposed to be legal to sell? Those network company like At&T and O2 etc...to their subscribers?

Great info compiled in that chart. Too bad we dont go to Switzerland anymore, namely Zurich, otherwise I'd already be salivating for a chance to get one there.
This month only got trips to Paris and Frankfurt, so my chances of getting one would be from there. Not immediately expensive, but not as cheap as previously either.

Been checking around, there dont seem to be any contract-free iPhones available from T-Mobile or Orange from Germany and France. Unless comeone can point me to the right place, looks like I'm out of "Apples" from France's "Orange".

RM3900-RM5200, that's brave of you.
As for your question, that depends on how the IPD guys respond to firmware 2.0. There are saying that they are getting reasy with the unlock, but those unlocks IIANM are based on 2.0 beta/SDKs, not the ones coming this July 11th.

Well, I dun think there will be enough stock for Aus coz optus reserved most of the iphone for those who had already made the deposit. And the rest are for those who want to subscribe to plan and prepaid users. I think have to wait for a few more weeks for the new stocks to come. But for Vodafone Aus, they just released the price this morning, it is so expensive just like voda NZ.

I doubt the demand will outstrip the available stock. Remember, being an owner of the new 3G iPhone now requires credit checks, and that is up to RM5000(after conversion) required for that 18-24 months contract. Unless an insane number of super-rich people i dont know suddenly decides to mob the stores, the stocks will be more or less available, especially to the stores in new iPhones market. Older markets like US and UK, would be harder to get because previous owners can opt to trade up to 3G with renewed contracts, so they would be competing with new prospective owners who will sign up with new contracts.
Or I may be wrong and eat my own words

. Either way, I dont see the frenzy of getting the 3G iPhone be as substantial as the first launch.

U should know that actually 10000 customers already made the deposit to optus a few weeks ago to get their hand on the new iphone. Not to mention telstra and vodafone yet. Well, dun worry, I will let u know on friday coz I'll be in the queue on that day.
