DDR2 & DDR3 is totally different thing.. Different frequency and slots.. hehe
U need different board to run DDR3 as well... Only P35 chipset and above can use DDR3....

DDR2 2GB PC6400 is about rm140 per stick

You need 1GB or more to run current programs and games as it uses more RAM.
Windows will use the swap file on your hard disk more often if you don't have enough RAM which is why your system is slow.

You need a pair of RAM to enable a feature called dual channel. It doubles the bandwidth of the RAM.

which is mean..if i put 2 1gb rams together..
it'll become 2 gb?

That of course

. 1GB+1GB=2GB

But.....what the guy is talking about is dual channel. Simply put, if you use 2 identical 1GB ram, your 2GB ram will run a twice the bandwidth of using say just 1 stick of 2GB ram.
M@r0R!
Jul 4 2008, 07:29 PM
so it is better than only 1 stick?
danieljoey
Jul 4 2008, 07:46 PM
DDR2 is dual channel ram.. of course 2 stick is better than one.
2x1GB is better... or 4x1GB or 2x2GB.. hehe.. rams are cheap now...
if u are not ocing.. go get value ram can already.. no point getting performance ram.

it's an AMD Athlon x2 4200, 1 hynix 512mb ddr2 Ram ,160GB SATA hard disk,1 DVD Writer AND 1 RADEON 2100 gc
very stock. but i am going to upgrade it into a gaming rig.
so which ram stick should i get?
and i'm using vista..
tkh_1001
Jul 5 2008, 10:54 AM
for vista minimum is 2gb of total ram...cos at log-in to window itself without doing anything it has already consumed 700mb of ram...but if u wana use for gaming then its advised to get 4gb of total ram cos newer games kinda uses alot of rams n it does makes some framerates difference on 4gb...but to fully utilise 4gb u will have to get 64bits OS lo...

Ditch the 512MB and get 2GB x2. Check your motherboard manual to see if it supports 2GB modules or not.

4gb..ow gawd...how much do i need to fork out?
what's with the 64bit OS?
How can i get that?

it says it supports up to 8gb

64 bit OS is 64 bit operating systems = vista 64 bits...
if u are running vista 32bits then the max it can detect n use is only 3.25gb of ram...n u will have to include the ram from ur GC as well in the sum....
if u are not planning to go 64bits, then just get a 2x1gb lo...
value ram for 2x2gb normally will cost around rm2xx like that....

Jul 5 2008, 12:10 PM
so how can i upgrade my 32bit to 64 bits?
TristanX
Jul 5 2008, 01:25 PM
Check your hardware for 64-bit drivers before you switch to Windows 64-bit. Windows 64-bit can be a pain in the ass when you have old hardware that doesn't have 64-bit drivers.
You can install 64-bit with Vista SP1 64-bit DVD. You cannot upgrade to 64-bit but you still can save your settings with Windows Easy Transfer. It doesn't support upgrade. Don't forget to backup your data before you install it.

Visit the manufacturer's site for your hardware. You can use the Device Manager to get the brand and model of your parts.
Most computer shops sells the DVD but 64-bit versions will be more difficult and expensive.
M@r0R!
Jul 5 2008, 01:38 PM

No.DDR3 have a huge edge in Super Pi 32M

A well tweak DDR2 will lost to a well tweak DDR3 system by 20's or so
D9GTR base DDR3 stick usually can do DDR 3 2000,8-7-6-18-1T
While D9GMH/D9GKX stick usually can do DDR 2 1200,4-4-4-4-2T
But the difference in 1M is negligible

tumpang ask...is there any real difference in gaming on Vista 64 bit compared to XP? will my games that run on XP can run on Vista 64 bit as well?
TristanX
Jul 6 2008, 03:30 PM
Vista 64-bit supports 32-bit and I've tested all the games I have and don't have any problems. I think it will run any games that is made using DirectX. The difference is minimal as current games depends on graphic card more than the CPU.
